With all this talk of TWA completely pulling their European Ops. out for a bit, I couldn't help but think that a --new-- airline could help TWA. Think about it: if there was a new, US-based, International ONLY airline (just to Europe for the time being), and they could show that they could positively benefit from TWA's feed and access to JFK, and also use TWA's European slots for their own, do you think with those combined things that they would do well? If the start-up demanded that TWA increased service at JFK, and would feed the new airline through their JFK hub, do you think TWA would jump on it or let it slip idoly by? Remember, this airline would have TWA as their sole US partner, and TWA would benefit from the feed that the new airline brought to their hub, without the added overhead of their own planes flying across the Atlantic?

It's an intriguing thought, having an alliance with a soley transatlantic startup, but the question is, will the startup be profitable? TWA's feeder service and overall service to points in the US is very small. They would have to dramatically increase the number of flights to other US cities to get enough connecting passengers to use the transatlantic airline. This new airline would definatly have to call upon TWA as you said to expand their JFK hub. Also, this new airline would have to offer many perks and benefits to really successfully compete with the hoard of airlines that use JFK to and from all points in Europe. Also, if this concept would become very successful, do you think that TWA would then go ahead and incorporate this startup into TWA and once again fly their own routes, of course, if this whole idea were to happen?

Don't know about that last part. If the airline could be setup almost for the purpose of being there when TWA is on their feet, then that new airline could be absorbed into TWA at an extremely low price--if not made a 'merger'.

If a sole transatlantic airline was to start up and take over TWA's european routes, I wouldn't be supprised if TWA would buy the airline, then have both European routes and routes to wherever they are going to fly to now.
I think this has just been said by FLY777UAL, but that would be the most likely scenario.
Also, I think that it was just plain stupid of TWA to backout of their european routes in the first place!

I'd have to be cynical and believe that this new proposed airline would do as Trans States Air is doing to TWA at JFK now..
If you were starting this new airline, would you pick TWA's small domestic system, or a bigger one (where you could possibly pick up other international routes, and a European partner or two) like Delta, United or American?
I don't think the new airline would stay "faithful" to TWA for long..
If TWA was serious about JFK, maybe it'd be asking TSA to share those new routes it's flying for Delta..

No....the airline would basically be set up to provide TWA with a complete trans-Atlantic system and loyal customers once they were "back on their feet".
