We all now where the price of Jet-A is. We all know about the recruiting difficulties that MQ is facing. They recently lowered their mimimum requirements for pilots again. Due to these challenging times (financially), are you surprised that has grounded all its of its highest CASM ERJ-135 fleeet?

I am certainly surprised. MQ has 39 of these birds and I think that the capacity cut is needed.

They have? I heard nothing about this. I think it would have been wise to keep the Saabs on the east coast(where the 135s are used). Or they should invest in the Q200/Q300/Q400s while they still can, or even the EMB-120.

There are still niche routes where the 135 can be profitable. With a fleet already stretched as thin as theirs, I cant see them pulling anything out of service completely as long as it can make a profit; even if thats a small profit.

Flying the 135s is like a capacity cut already. They are weight restricted many times and can only take a max of 30 pax! I think AMR just wants to use these as a way to have exposure in the northeast markets for their frequent fliers. They dont need to charge super low fares to fill up a 130 seat MD80, so they can charge higher fares to get 20-30 pax on the E135s.

The question should have read: "Due to these challenging times (financially), would you be surprised IF American Eagle grounded all its of its highest CASM ERJ-135 fleeet?"

[Sorry I don't know what I was thinking when I approved the preview.]

I am certianly surprised that this hasn't happened yet.
