So now that FLG has an 8800' runway, is US Exp going to switch flights to the CRJ?

They have so few of the Dash-8's - and the summer schedule has 6 flights a day each way PHX-FLG. If the demand's there, why not switch over to the CRJ?

I would think that the cost of fuel for that short of a hop would be one of the considerations.

Many people like frequency, at least I do.

Why is that only YV/USX serves Flagstaff? With the size of the city and MSA you'd expect maybe service to SLC or DEN also.

Could be anything.

CRJ not available.
Cost of fuel prohibitive on such a short route.
FLG is at a 7000 ft elevation, perhaps the CRJ would be more restricted then the Dash 8 is.
Does FLG have facilities to handle a jet? Would an airline jet be allowed under the current airport rules/noise rules?

Add in the fact that it is the largest city and the gateway for the Grand Canyon (unless you are coming in from Vegas).

I've always wondered why it did not have jet service.

Um, maybe you missed the announcement, but AS/QX will start flying FLG-LAX in June.

I kind of wondered why AS/QX didn't offer summertime (seasonal) service directly to GCN.

Probably the US service is enough for now--LAX service with int'l connections may be all that is needed for the moment. It's only a few hours drive from NAU to Skyharbor (if traffic is good), and if you can make that trip then its a one stop at worst to almost anywhere in the world. Most students I know do the drive & fly from PHX.

I just wonder when USX will start its PHX-SAD (Safford) service. That will be helpful when I have to fly home to visit the folks and grandfolks. It would be nice if they could do it with a Let 410 too.

Keep on truckin'...

Well, the stated goal of the runway extension was to become jet-capable - but to answer your question, I'm not sure if these potential problems play a role.

Apparently I did. I no longer live in Phoenix, and haven't been through Flagstaff in quite some time since my airline doesn't fly there...so I don't really get to keep up on AZ news. Good news for Flagstaff.
