This is a final update regarding the SFO gathering scheduled for 2-17-01.
We are still on for the 11am gathering at gate 98 at the upper/main level by the windows.
Sadly there will be no tours this time, as most airlines were not being very nice to us. Aeroflot had all of their information written in Russian, and since Kai or myself do not know russian, that was out. Singapore does not give tours (snotty). Lufthansa did not leave a fowarding phone number, and British Airways did not return our calls. Delta's 764 is on a 70 minute turn, so there is no chance of getting a tour of that plane.
After we meet, we will probably grab some lunch at one of the resturants at the airport. Later, we will head to the spotter's dream location in the A terminal.

I think next time you should arrange for a tour of either the SFO maintainance base or the OAK maintainance base. I want to see if they have big roomfuls of assembled engines waiting to be installed on a plane like TW used to do with their L10 fleet at LAX 18 years ago.

Are you going to have more of these meetings in the future? I can't make it out to the airport this weekend, but I am just a quick 10 minute drive away so if there are more meetings in later months that would be great.

Aa737: Everyone really liked having the last meeting, and I am sure it will be no different with this one, so yes, there will probably be more meetings in the future...we should definitely have one in the summer.

Yes. Keep checking in with the website for more updated information about the next gathering.
As a frequent visitor of the Maintence base in SFO, right now is not the time to go there. First of all, there is not all of that much that we can see, and second, with the un-happy employee's there, getting a tour there would be frowned upon.
Regarding your question about the engines: UA's engine shop is in SFO, and yes they have a lot of engines ready to go. If you were to go through Dock 2, there are a few over there, awaiting some maintence, and being stored. The engine shop is a really interesting place as well.
Sadly, the maintence base is not what is was. Line Maintence has taken over B29 and Dock 1. Dock 2 is used for scheduled visits that are not line. It is a common sight to see a 777 or a 744 parked in a corner, a 757, two airbusses, and a few 737s over there.
Dock 3: Sometimes has a 767 there.
Dock 4: SSR Projects on 737
Dock 5: C-check 737
Dock 6: 757 and Airbus C-checks
Dock 7: This used to be the 727 c-check area, but is now used for Airbusses and 737 as well.

British Airways just called me back minutes ago, they unfortunately cannot let us have an aircraft tour (due to lack of airport security clearance, not enough time to get it) but the duty manager offered to let us tour the brand new Terraces lounge and we will be in the lounge when the plane arrives.
More info will be available tomorrow or later tonight on our website.
