Jet Airways LCC Jet Lite plan to start Pakistan flights sometime this year and have recieved approval to do so, they will operate on the Delhi-Islamabad and Bombay-Karachi routes. Currently only Indian Airlines fly Delhi-Lahore once a week using A319/320.

PIA too are mulling opening Islamabad-Delhi route and adding Chennai later on. PK currently fly KHI-DEL thrice weekly A310/737 and KHI-BOM five weekly A310-737, they also operate LHE-DEL four weekly 737.

This is great , I really think henceforth Tier II and Tier III cities should be connected with Pakistan

I think there should be open Skies between India and Pakistan.

Question: How much Indian sub-continent air traffic is there currently? Meaning Pakistan-India, India-Bangladesh, and Pakistan-Bangladesh? And how much is there allowed now?

And if space is not available, what third country would one travel to to make a connection - Sri Lanka? The Maldives? Kenya?

For India - Pakistan, UAE and Oman are the best connecting points.....both in terms of distance as well as availability of flights....

The first thing needed is easing of the visa restrictions between the 2 countries, otherwise I presume the flights are going to go reasonably empty?

I agree. Commuter aircraft can be used to ply routes, say, between LHE and Chandigarh, Armistar, which would be great for those in Punjab who have families on both side of the border.

There is plenty of demand all around but the visa regimes is outrageous. Pakistanis can't Indian visas, Indians can't Pakistani visa, Bangladeshis can't get any visas. Unless the visa system is streamlined, this problem will persist.
