I was planning a trip to Toronto and find the fares to Buffalo less than to Toronto, often a lot less, not to say AC doesn't offer competitive fares, AC does too for not much more. But if you weigh in rental cars, the saving can be significant. I'm curious how often people use BUF to go to YYZ, perhaps altogether with BLI(YVR) and PBG(YUL). Judging by the number of flights G4 offers between LAS and BLI, it's safe to say most passengers are YVR bound.

It seems to me that if one wanted to go to YVR without using the YVR airport, one would avoid BLI and use YXX and avoid the customs lines.

The most common one's are really:

BTV (Burlington) for Montreal
BUF (Buffalo) for Toronto.
BLI (Bellingham) or SEA (Seattle) for Vancouver

As a former Hamiltonian (near Toronto) now living in Florida and having to travel regularly to provide care to a family member, I can tell you that for YYZ ,BUF is generally by FAR the best way to go -- I think that now BUF's pax traffic is about 40% Canadians! I can deplane in BUF, get my car, hop the 'fence' (Customs) and be home in 1 hr 20 minutes -- about the same it would take from YYZ
BUF is better for not only fare but rental cars, compact size, lack of congestion (although security lines can bung up a bit at times). Been there 5 times this year already ..
BUF also has good mainline connections to anywhere, plus hops to New York.
DL tried to downsize BUF from ATL to CRJ's a couple of years ago but now has had to put more mainline metal back on, plus the nice, new CRJ900's!

I love to fly, and it shows!

DTW (Detroit) for Windsor (YQG)

BUF (Buffalo) for Toronto (YYZ)

Within Canada - London, Ont (YXU) and Kitchener, ONT (YKF) can be considered to be alternatives to YYZ. NW serves both airports with multiple daily Airlink flights from DTW.

As far as I know nobody operates between any U.S. cities and YXX.
