Did AF use to fly to YVR in the 80s?

In 1987 I did my first trip to Canada, and I am convinced to have seen an AF 747 at YVR (I was just 10 and my enthusiasm for aviation started during the trip...  shy  ).

Sorry if this has been discussed before...

Never operated scheduled service AFAIK.

Doesn't mean you didn't see one there though - charter, diversion etc.

AF has never served YVR except possibly on rare diversions or charters.

AF has never served YVR, regular or Charter flights. According to the bilateral agreement France/Canada, AF has no traffic rights for serving the Canadian west coast.

Yeah, isn't it time they scrapped the stupid thing? Or at least modernized it? I'm not sure if AC have the rights either.

Paris is the only one of the big 4 European cities without service to western Canada.

French carriers actually do have rights to YVR under the current Canada-France bilateral, but only on the YVR-PPT route which they have never operated.

Canadian leisure carrier Air Transat has approval for seasonal YVR-CDG and YYC-CDG service from late May through early October this year. Their schedules show a weekly A330-200 YVR-YYC-CDG with a second weekly 332 YVR-CDG nonstop from late June through mid-September.

Hopefully this will change this year. Canada and the E.U. are working on a new agreement. Not sure if Air France would even be interested in Vancouver once they receive traffic rights into YVR, but maybe it will open the door for Air Tahiti Nui or Corsair?

Zoom Airlines Canada has been flying seasonally YVR-YYC-CDG since last summer 2007, they are increasing frequency this summer starting in May to twice weekly service.
