Qatar Airways To Start CCJ In India

From June 17, Qatar Airways will announce its 9th destination in India -- Kozhikode (Calicut).
QR will offer daily flights


QR 284 DOH - CCJ 0110 0800 (Mo,We,Th,Fr,Sa,Su)
QR 286 CCJ - DOH 0900 1045 (Mo,We,Th,Fr,Sa,Su)


QR 285 DOH - CCJ 2040 0330 (Mo, Th)
QR 287 CCJ - DOH 1045 1250 (Tu , Fr)

All fligthts to be operated by an A321

I'm not able to understand the 7 hr ground time in CCJ .. strange.

indeed...if I was in charge of QR, I would adopt the following point :

The flight timings on days 3 & 7 have the aircraft parked at CCJ airport for 7 hours? Why waste so much money by paying parking rent to CCJ for such a long time when it would be best to have flights on days 1/4 dep CCJ at 5am (90 min layover in CCJ only), arrive in DOH at 7am which enables pax to easily connect with the 750am DOH-LHR flight + 1250pm DOH-LHR flight, 0745am DOH-MAN flight, 0825 DOH-FRA flight, 830am DOH-GVA-EWR flight and 1045am DOH-IAD as obviously besides the O&D traffic, QR will expect to have a lot of feeder traffic from the expat Keralite population residing in UK/USA/UAE/KWI.

Between 7am and noon, QR has heaps loads of flights bound to BAH/AUH/MCT/DXB/KWI which will feed their CCJ flight.

QR generally does not do that, as in 7 hrs ground time in India?? Unless it is a day flight.

And from summer 2008 they tweaked all their Indian departures from India at 0500 hrs ish, And considering the QR 286 arrives at 0330 hrs I expected it to depart at 0500 hrs ish to connect to the rest of the world.

However, CCJ has more labour traffic than COK , TRV. Even EK has timed their CCJ flights in such a fashion that they connect well to the gulf, they are not interested in the feeder traffic to the USA and other EU destinations.

It maybe has to do with timings considering now there will be 4 daily flights from DOH to CCJ. 9W has got brilliant timings , but when QR steps in AIX/IC are going to have a real bad time.

yes i know that QR doesnt want that much feeder traffic from EU/USA for their CCJ flight thats why I also wrote that between 7-9am, there are lots of DOH-Intra Gulf flights supporting the expat Keralite labor force working in the GCC.

yes with EK and QR now entering CCJ, AI and IC are going to suffer big time because these 2 airlines with bigger planes i.e. A 321 / A 332 / B 772s will also be able to offer extra excess baggage allowances to their pax which would be an attractive sales weapon to poach pax away from AI/IC.

Btw, from where is QR getting this dry leased A 321 from? as its a one class 196 pax configured aircraft!

My guess is that maybe they want to transfer the traffic to destinations like AMM , DAM , BEY , CAI , et al which have departures only in the afternoon. As I said just a guess.

ILFC I think. They just have one aircraft configured like this.

Maybe they don't have to pay for the ground time.

It is AFAIK an old FlyNiki ( HG) aircraft which came from Aerollyod.
