WIth oil at $112 I doubt it will be good news. I still think the expansion of CLE destinations with mostly RJ equipment is a big mistake.
Only the tax credits will keep it running and not for as long as most people think.

Maybe Mr. Kellner will announce additional Q400 routes out of CLE to reduce additional pressure at EWR? Or maybe they plan on announcing CLE-LGW going back to full time with 5x weekly and CLE-CDG doing the same?
Or, it is another talk about the merger......

Hum...maybe upgrading equipment? Just flew TOL-CLE-PHL and the CLE-PHL portion was 50/50, could definitely use more seats on the last flight of the night, first flight in the morning...TOL-CLE on the other hand...8 pathetic, although it really didn't mater as my ticket practically paid for the flight..

Dont know if its related, however allegedly at this weeks CO board meetings, latest proposal from ExpressJet was rejected which could mean 51 ERJs leaving the CO system in 2009.
If anything is more disposable for CO, its definately the CLE operation.

MEC was advised however they furloughs are coming - 35 (about 10% of pilot force) effective May 15th with 22 additional Capt to FO downgrades with a thinned out schedule with possible some planes being parked.

Maybe he will announce CLE-SJO. The city/Port Authority just struck a trade agreement with Costa Rica.
Edit: The smiley goes with CLE-SJO. The trade agreement is fact.

That's my bet, plus announcement of the new FIS and new gate construction hinted at in the PD last week.

I would guess either more Q400 routes or the SJO route. I did think it interesting reading in the Plain Dealer yesterday about the trade deal with Costa Rica. Though the FIS construction is probably more important.

Between the potential for a SJO route due to the trade deal and the ongoing relationship with France (see todays Plain Dealer), the need for a new FIS facility is critical. They need to spank NW (or just give in to their demands so they will move) and get this project at Terminal C started ASAP.

The PD expanded their report on the Costa Rican trade agreement and, sorry to say, I think there is less to it than initially met the eye - not that it can't develop nicely in the future.
I'll vote for airport facilities as the reason he's in town. Or maybe he's just getting in an early round at Westwood. Didn't he used to live in Rocky River?

25 Nk319: I would say behind Jetblue my favorite airline out there is Continental, so I am hoping its good news!
26 CALMSP: well..............................dont expect it to be good news. i have a feeling its going to be some sort of reductions.
27 CLE757: I dont think Larry would fly to CLE just to do that.
28 Joeman: I would have agree with that although LAN has been called off for starters...
29 CLE757: Hmm this is true, however it may be due to a pilot shortage at Commutair.
30 Flyinryan99: Didn't they announce AZO - CLE also? I can't remember, if they did it's not in the schedules now either.
32 777fan: Doubt he would do it at CLE - that would likely be handled in Houston unless of course, he wanted to tell CLE employees that they were going to have
33 MCOflyer: If an airline CEO flys in coach, then he gets my respect. Most CEO's fly F class and refuse to fly Y. What did Larry have to say about CO? King
34 Steeler83: Wow... 2008 is already proving to be a very turbulent year for the economy. Oil keeps going up (if only I had stock in Exxon...), causing costs across
35 Mbm3: Yes, I have chatted with him about his time in 'River, which he seemed to enjoy. He also lived in Orange County prior to Texas.
36 AS739X: Bill Ayers of Alaska has flown in coach as long as he's been our CEO (as far as I have seen), which does in fact get my respect. ASSFO
37 MasseyBrown: Neither AZO nor LAN seems to be in the summer schedule any more. In addition to the high flying cost, the expense of (re)opening a station may be one
38 Flyibaby: I remember when in 2002, when I was based in SEA for AS, that the execs, including Ayer, would get checked in as MVP Golds and especially when traveli
39 MSPDL: Richard Anderson CEO of Delta always sits in Y.. exit row window seat..
40 CALMSP: yes, AZO/LAN have already been given the nix...........wondering if we will see others.
41 Bobnwa: As far as I know, no airlines CEO's have or fly corporate jets. Blatantly not true, Many airline CEO's fly Y class.quite frequently.
42 CALPSAFltSkeds: Well, it's a day later than the visit was to take place. Does anyone have a report on what the visit was about?
43 Flyinryan99: Actually, I'm told it's doing better then it has, though it is lacking. That route actually gives the only good connections to the northeast out of T
44 Joeman: That's very true and understandable, look how much LHR cost...
45 FUN2FLY: So, we've got 44 posts on Larry coming to Cleveland thread and not one fact on what happened or why he was here. That's what I like about us CLE guys,
46 AS739X: Interesting, he does check-in as Gold cause he pays for a ticket (I'm sure from a company pay bank). But he flew into SFO Wednesday sitting in 13C. H
48 Greenair727: If CO were to announce some new routes/expansion at this time--it would really make the airline stand out among all the others cutting routes (Delta),
49 CLE757: Larry flies PS0, Positive Space 1st priority he doesnt pay.
50 CALMSP: actually its a PS1.........but who's counting??
51 AS739X: I think our codes are different, not to mention I have never been CSA trained. All aside I respect a leader who will sit with the normal Joe Passenger
52 OptionsCLE: I think he flies PS0 or PS1 when on company business. For personal travel, though, any CO board member or employee over a certain pay grade receives
53 SANFan: Might as well turn this thread into a discussion of Continental's pass policy since there sure doesn't seem to be anything else to report... Perhaps M
54 CALMSP: does anyone know why he was in CMH the night before????
55 SANFan: Either trying to score a skybus t-shirt, or more of that beautiful Ohio weather? bb
57 MasseyBrown: Ah, that pretty much guarantees the visit was airport related. In addition to the city, the State is offering CO some incentives related to employmen
58 FUN2FLY: As part of the new $1.6 bn business incentive plan announced recently by the state, they might have given CO some more $ than previously announced or
59 LHR777: So did he get that Skybus t-shirt? Do you think he'll eBay it?
60 Falcon84: Maybe he was in Cleveland just for some pierogies and some Rock n' Roll?
61 Mnevans: Does anyone know if anything actually went down today? I haven't seen any news...
62 Jetpixx: Maybe Larry is an Oakland A's fan and he was catching a baseball game? If he was in Columbus and Cleveland, he most likely said everything is status q
63 Steeler83: Hahaha. I think we have more piergies in Pittsburgh -- actually, make that Buffalo. Will we ever know why he was at CLE?
64 MasseyBrown: A position Cleveland and the State of Ohio might take in some future CO/UA merger case would be favoring a provision forcing sale of CLE to a viable

66 FUN2FLY: Thursday's CO quarterly earnings call might play a factor into when, and if, any CLE or merger announcements are made. There still has to be a reason
67 MasseyBrown: Except for a relatively small amount facilities work, I don't believe either government is throwing cash at CO. Both are offering tax and fee breaks
68 Joeman: That IS OUTRAGEOUS and for obvious reasons from the get go!!! I surely never knew that and now have more contempt for the often standard government s
69 MasseyBrown: Based on this morning's conference call, which said CO will reduce domestic capacity by 5% in September, we pretty much have to assume the Kellner vi
