As much as i love flying with AT, they have become very greedy recently. Last year BA (GB airways) and AT flew the LHR-CMN route. Averagely the price would be around £250 rtrn in the summer high season, this was already expensive as flights to RAK were around £125 rtrn. But now, since BA have stopped operating this route, AT have decided to massively hike up the price to around £350 to £400. With that price you could fly to the US or asia from heathrow and it would probably be cheaper.

So whats going on ?

Thanks

i was in casablanca a few days back, and needed a last minnute flight back, the quotes i got for RAM were very high into london, but their subsid atlas blue had reasonable prices, maybe they are just differentiating from the low cost arm. The travel agents said availability was quite slim, so people are paying for the flights...

some more competition would be good, maybe easyjet and ryanair will increase their presence. With Morocco being outside of europe, it falls under the increased air passenger duty charge of £40, so any direct links from the uk are already incompetative relatively. I flew there via MAD, and it worked out cheaper than a direct flight.

Thats exactly the problem, In Xmas i went with IB / AT / BA from LHR to CMN via BCN. I paid approx £167. Which is relatively cheap.

Unfortunately Atlas blue does not fly to CMN, they only fly to TNG from Heathrow. Therefore AT are left with a monopoly on LHR - CMN flights.

I honestly hoped Easyjet would fly from London to CMN since they purchased GB airways, but they only fly from Lyon and Madrid into CMN. They even use the new Terminal there which is a good change from the old T1.

Anyhow, demand still does not justify such a high premium on such flights. Especially since Morocco has a free trade agreement with the EU aswell as an open-skies agreement with them too.

Good for them if they can increase their fares and still get decent loads.

I'd say your comment and the following one...

... pretty much exclude each other. Seeing that BA dropped the route, and RAM has a monopoly on nonstops (if that's the case), I can very much understand the increase: it's not like the demand that was there before simply disappears, just because one carrier stops flying the route; the people that used to fly BA now need another airline to fly with. Some may end up flying through Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt or wherever else, but a lot of them will end up on RAM.

The real question might be if they've really increased their fares, or if you're just seeing more expensive fares due to higher bookings than when you previously booked...

To be honest, flights to CMN are naturally high for some reason. Whay is that ?
