Question Regarding The Historic Lufthansa Fleet

Maybe somebody could help here. In a German forum we were discussing the LH fleet and the question was raised why Lufthansa in 1981-1985 took delivery of brand new 737-200Adv. while they also had the 737-300 a more efficient and advanced aircraft coming just a few years later. Same goes for the 747-200. I think they got their last one delivered in 1987 and the the first -400 was just coming two years later


It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

But maybe somebody can answer this, as I said LH took delivery of the last 747-230 in 1987, why did they not choose the 747-300 instead ? It would have offered them a little more capacity over the -200.

733 is bigger, the 735 was not available. The 732 was a proven plane at that time and they had enough of them to wait with introducing new cockpit, engines, etc.

Probably the 732 was available sooner than the 733.

Why do people still buy 767s when the 787 is coming?
