EK A380 Seatplan

The 3-class A380 seatplan has been printed in the latest copy of the EK timetable for all those who are interested. I cant seem to find anything available on their corporate website to provide a link however.

Upper deck is First and Business Class while the entire lower deck is Economy Class. Business Class seating appears staggered to indicate single seats, and at the aft of the upper deck is a big galley complex which might prohibit passengers using the spiral staircase as many seem to do on SQ. Use of this staircase on EK would mean crossing cabin class which is not permitted .. from the lower to higher classes anyway!

You can't hear anything from the upper deck on a 747 so I would expect the same is true on the A380. There is too much ambient noise on an aircraft anyway to block out those kinds of sounds.

I do however recall one flight on a narrowbody (forget what type) where I had to listen to a dog barking for about 3 hours. It was obviously in a kennel in the cargo compartment just under my seat and the sound easily carried through the floor.

If Y class is all downstairs then passengers will have no need to use the stairs, except where boarding / diembarking cannot be done directly to/from the upper level. In this config. Y class passengers will never need to use either stairs.

The seat map isn't showing up on the PDF timetable. In which timetable did you see it?

Mother and young son on a plane, a barking dog in the underfloor cargo hold is heard. "Mom, what's that sound?" "That's a dog barking." "... [scared voice] Mom, how high are we?"

I flew on SQ's A380 on the lower deck in Economy Class last week.

There is much less ambient noise in the A380 than a B747, but even so, we could certainly hear nothing from the upper deck. To be honest, there is no sense of there even being an upper deck when on board.

Well this is nice, they have really configured the aircraft nicely.

I'm more eager to know, how will they configure the high density A380's i.e the 644 seater aircrafts. I won't be a bit surprised if they shove in a 3-5-3 layout and in just 2 class configuration. But still 644 is less , I was thinking initially they might cross 700.

Anyways all the best EK , we shall definitely see one of those A380's in COK.

You can well imagine that upper deck passengers will transfer via dedicated jet bridges / lounges / VIP concourse in Dubai, never once mixing with the unwashed masses.

and at the aft of the upper deck is a big galley complex

That's also where EK put the cabin crew rest. On SQ's aircraft, the crew rest is in the aft cargo hold between the main gear wells.

The seatplan is not available on the EK website to date. I have only seen it in the lastest printed copy of their timetable so you'll need to get your hands on one, unless someone is able to scan the page.

So if the upper deck needs to disembark via the lower deck at certain airports, do the steerage passengers have to wait for them first, or would First/Business have to wait for us plebs to get off first?

They seem to have changed that to 604 seats, atleast that's what I've been reading lately.

Yes, and IMO COK would be the first airport in India to get the A380.

FYI.......

The Emirates strategy of premium upstairs and economy downstairs on the 380 aircraft was decided years ago, at about the time they ordered the 380's. Only now is it coming out. It was kept secret in part because EK was directing their architects for the two new DXB concourses to produce a design which "fits" the seating scheme.

The new concourses will have two separate worlds. Everything a premium passenger might need will be on the concourse+1 floor (and above) levels. There will be a premium retail zone on this upper level as well. The first class lounges will be on the floor above and will be ultra-exclusive.

Downstairs on the main concourse there will be a full range of services for economy passengers.

The holdrooms will also be double-decked, with economy bridges below connected to the lower deck. The premium upper deck passengers will load via the +1 floor bridge, which is connected directly to the premium lounges.

This Hub will be like none have ever been before and will take the premium/economy service concepts through the entire EK travel experience both on the ground and in the air. It's a game-changer.
