How much do you think someone would end up paying for basic PPL liscence. And what kind of instructor will you get for the money. Also what age do you have to be to get the liscene in the U.S.
thanks

Cost varies a lot depending on where you live and how fast you catch on. Quality of instruction depends on luck....if you don't like your CFI, find another one. I'd say expect to spend at least 3K.

Just started mine last week with Aérotaxi at Montréal - Saint-Hubert (YHU). Cost: 7000 CAD. Minimum age required from Transport Canada: 17. DE727UPS comment is very relevant. Shop around and if you don't feel comfortable with the initial contact with a flight school and/or an instructor , don't hesitate to look for another one.

You have to be 16 to solo 17 for your license. People say expect to spend, however I started fying when I was 14 and spent quite a lot more the 3K quotes by DE727. However his figure is doing able if you learn to fly out of a small uncontrolled airport, in a quite (airspace wise) area. I learnt to fly out of a very busy airport, in Socal which is probably the busiest airspace in the world! You also have to think about pilot supplies, you will not want to go cheap here, If you buy a cheap headset in a couple months you will buy a new more comfortable one, as the cheap one hurts your head.
The one thing no one mention is once you got your private the expenses are not over! You will still want to fly, and get checked out in aircraft that are faster, better loads, retractable landing gear. And you will want to go places, I spent $500 to go to Vegas for an In and Out Burger, as I want to go to LAS.
