My mom was driving across the Anchorage airport today and had to stop and wait for an AS 737 being towed over to the air museum. Naturally, she called me up to let me know all about it... it's not often that you see a jet that size over on the shores of Lake Hood.

Does anyone know anything about which plane this is?

It should be a 737-200 N740AS Alaska donated it to the museum a while back once they retired all the 200's. Alaska employee's dedicated time to polish and clean the aircraft before delivering it to the museum.

I wonder where they found the space to park it.

There ain't a lot of room on their lot.

It sat unattended at AS's hangar area for years. Literally- we park our 747s at Fox-1, 2, and 3, which are right next to the AS MX hangar (the old Northwest Cargo ramp, before they built Fox 4-10). It there, I'd say, November of 2006, and left today. So I guess not 'years', but a good long while.

I can tell you where it is now... as you're driving up the exit ramp to the North Terminal, it's just on the other side of the Lake Hood perimeter road at the museum. I didn't think they'd have a place to put it, either, but they did! I was really surprised to see it there, because I didn't notice it there on my way in to work, only on my way home!
