I don't have the exact dates of retirement but all the remaining 13 B744 in service should be retired by 2012, replaced 1 for 1 by the additional B77W ordered last year.

I will miss those B747s in the AF colors...I had the chance to fly on them, three times only but twice on the upper deck. I'll be flying the 747 next August from CDG to YUL and back.
How many of those 747 will be converted to Special Freighters for AF ?

Quoting Mk777 (Reply 3): Don't they send the B744 to DEL in the winter season??
Correct. DEL is also served by AF B744 during the winter season (A343 during the summer season).
Quoting AOMlover (Reply 2): How many of those 747 will be converted to Special Freighters for AF ?
3 of them have already converted into freighters : F-GISA, SB, SE.
Nothing has been clearly decided yet for the 3 remaining ex-Combi (F-GISC, SD, F-GEXB) whether they will be also converted or not, as in a medium term, AF plans to replace all the B744F by additional B777LRF.

Quoting DID747 (Reply 8): Are you sure the 747-400 will fly SFO for the next two summer seasons 2008 and 2009 ? if yes, when start the summer season at AF please?
The summer season starts, for all airlines, usually end march (around the 25th or 26th) and lasts end of october. Regarding SFO, I can tell you that it is right now a 744 (I have a reservation on this flight in may and it is a 744). But I don't know for 2009.

For the summer season 2008, the B744 flies daily to SFO until October 25th.
The summer season is starting on the last sunday of March until the last sunday of October.
The B744 is also scheduled to SFO for the next summer season 2009 ... at least for the moment !
Concerning JFK, indeed, AF010/011 is operated by a B744 during the summer season.

The fact AF leaves 744 IS NO SENSE !!! AF should order the 747-8i like LH . 77X and 332s are just new toys for a while !!! Sorry , I hate TWINS , all remembering me the A300B2, the dumpy awfull look of the A310s !

It will be a sad day in history when AF retires the 744 from pax service. I think most if not all will find new homes and not be broken up.

According to the French ATDB, F-GITA/B/C (the 3 oldest all-pax variants) are provisionally set for retirement in 2009-10, while the Combi F-GEXB should be retired or converted in 2009. None of the others have dates set in stone.
What I do ask--and excuse my ignorance if this is a stupid question--but is there any need/point in retiring F-GITH/I/J given that they are part of a follow-on order and only delivered in 2003-4?

But not the 747-400ERFs, correct?

They ordered plenty of A380s. I promise they have 4 engines.
The 747-8i is a dead product. I'll be surprised if LH gets it in the end.

Quoting United Airline (Reply 18): They might still order the B 747-8 if they see significant improvements. That's what they said.
When, and what improvements? We already know what the 747-8i is, and they have plenty of 777-300ERs in high density config already along with many A380s on order.

What about F-GISE? The last time I was on AF 744 was F-GISE. Are they still flying as pax or already converted to cargo version?

i love AF livery on the 744, big shame to see them go, but Yes there is a daily 744 service to JFK on AF but i opted for the 772 instead. I still have never been on a 747 of any type. I was so jealous when my grandparents isited back when i was about 6-7years old and they flew the ZRH-GVA leg on a 743.
Airlines been on: AY, LX, SR, OS, SK, KF, EZY, FR, BA, LH, AF, TG, DC, FC, TK

Quoting LH4116 (Reply 11): During what time of the year do AF send the 744 to PPT?
PPT is now served 4 x Weekly with an A343 instead of 3 x Weekly B744 previously
Quoting Speedbird0125 (Reply 21): What about F-GISE? The last time I was on AF 744 was F-GISE. Are they still flying as pax or already converted to cargo version?
F-GISA, F-GISB, F-GISE are now converted into Freighters.
Quoting Dennys (Reply 13): The fact AF leaves 744 IS NO SENSE !!!
On the opposite, it makes a lot of sense ! why using a thirsty 4 engine aircraft when you can do exactely the same job with a money maker twin B77W ?

TO FLY SSC :
747-8i FULL PAX would meet pax nbr requirements on ORY - FDF , ORY - PTP, ORY-RUN , ORY-CAY , CDG-BKK, CDG - HAV .... and ORY - NCE in summer !
AAA/ 77W have to stop at Cape Verde for refulling stops too often
BBB/ 748 will about 650 seater (100-150 more pax flown compared to the 77W )
CCC/ NO 380 are to be used for full pax versions .
AF should order the 748 and cick out some 77W from now on !
rgds

25 FlySSC: B748 = one more aircraft family = additional costs for maintenance, Crew training, no commonality with the rest of the fleet. B77W = most efficient t
