Pretty straightforward, what's the status? Anybody have any pics of the new J seats, as I'm thinking about giving them a try (never done a transcon before).

The alterations don't start until July. Although I was in Business this past friday and they had new seat covers. Same old plane. Nothing started yet.

The next round of interior upgrades to the 762 weren't scheduled to begin until next month (May). However, when I look at the updates for the refurb, there is no longer a start date for Phase II, only a completion date of Jan '09 for Phase II. The update also noted the prototype a/c for WI-FI was refurbed, meaning all the upgrades have been completed. I haven't been on this bird to know if that indeed is the case. Perhaps as each a/c is outfitted with WI-FI, the interior upgrades will occur at the same time. WI-FI should be available to pax soon, although we have not been given a firm date yet.
Back to the question, the only plans for the seats in J were new, light blue seat covers, which are already being installed. First is getting new seats (former 763 lie-flat F-seat), the whole a/c is getting new IFE (Panasonic eFX digital file servers) and wide screen LCDs throughout the cabin (still bulkhead and ceiling mounted, however, no PTVs), and new sidewalls. As mentioned above, all upgrades, at this point, are scheduled to be completed in by Jan '09.

Off topic, but still interesting... the new 738s AA will take delivery of in 2009-2010 will have a configuration of 16-F and 144-Y, an increase of 12 Y-seats over the existing a/c. There is no mention of the existing fleet being reconfigured though. Which is odd, this will be a staffing nightmare as on domestic flights 738s are only staffed with three FAs, but this new config will require four. International 738 trips have four f/as already, so no problem there. I guess they'll have to add back the fourth on domestic trips, as it would be a logistical nightmare not to, unless they made the new 738s a subfleet, which I don't see happening. Currently, domestic 738 flying is paired with MD-80 flying, I guess now they'll just pair 738s with 757s, which they already do on international trips.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm afraid I'm not sure of the old F seats you're speaking of on the 763, that were lie-flat? Anybody have any pictures to share?

I'm not sure that's correct. It could be, but I thought they were adding one more seat (the center single seat) making 10 First Class seats. I don't think they are increasing the space between seats, as the business class cabin isn't moving, and the old flat first class seats need about 20" more pitch per row, or 40" for the cabin... I could be wrong, but I thought they were just updating the current seats...

*cough* Copycats! *cough*
This is the exact same number of seats as Delta's new 738 configuration, both in F and Y. Whether or not they will be in exactly the same layout remains to be seen.
