Bye Bye MH Hibiscus

As of now MH special Hibiscus livery B744 9M-MPD is in the hangar at SZB to be repainted to normal livery. The second Hibiscus 9M-MPB will follow suit soon. And very likely the Heliconia B772 9M-MRD will suffer the same fate too.

To all the spotters, get them while you can.

Thats sad, the red hibiscus 744s of MAS are among the most beautiful special schemes. Why don´t they wait until the colours start fading? Imho it should be good for another 2 or 3 years.
Or are these aircraft being sold?

That's extremely sad news for any spotter.  Sad

I wonder if they'll repaint the Hisbiscus onto another aircraft, just like QF did with Wunala.

Hey Guys,

Isn't red one of the heaviest/expensive colours to have on a plane? Maybe the decision is purely economical?

I saw one of the Hibiscus 744's in LHR a few years ago, it was quite stunning!

Cheers,

Thankfully, I'll still see -MBP every day when I come into the office -- right next to Ndizani ... at least in 400-scale!

It's such a pity to see these gorgeous birds disappearing ... hopefully the Hibiscus livery will find its way onto an A380.

I'm tired of the A vs. B sniping. Neither make planes that shed wings randomly!

Heliconia should be gone by October this year; the 2nd hibiscus will be gone by June 2009.

With all 3 aircraft back to original (lighter) livery, the company will save a total of MYR 900 000 per year in current fuel cost. (1 USD is approximately 3.2 MYR)

Thanks for the info Paparadzi,

Are you sure MPB and MPD are staying in the MH fleet?

I've been repeatedly told by various sources that the only reason that those 2 B744's have remained in the fleet so long is they both carry that 'Hibiscus' livery.

MPA/MPC/MPE and MPG have all left the fleet making MPB and MPD the oldest B744's in their fleet.

Interesting to see a carrier selecting economics over promoting the carrier...

Scheme like these make the carrier much more noticeable...

Sad news...  Sad

I think this is one of the great liveries and is sad to see Malaysia paint the plane white, they should keep it and the blue 777 along as they look good. There advertising value is priceless, it keeps the planes and airline in people's mines.

Exactly... I don't see QF applying a standard color scheme to VH-OEJ or VH-VXB...

I think its time for MH to change their corporate identity. I personally find the "Wau" boring and the blue/red lines across the fuselage reminds me of Malaysia electric company "Tenage national"...The male crew uniforms resemblance to petronas attendants and watsons staff...

I agree!! In-fact I feel that alot of south asian carriers really need new male uniforms for both groundstaff and FAs (TG (inflight ones) MH SQ to name the main offenders) Thai also need to get rid of their polo shirts for groundstaff too.
But yeah MH needs a new logo, their incabin style is good, they can leave that!

25 MIAMIx707 : Shame 777 9D-MRD will be gone in those colors, that's far and away the most stunning livery on a 777 and probably on any widebody right now Qantas nee
26 Paparadzi : 9M-MPD is now back in normal color and should be back into service very soon. 9M-MPB was ferried to SZB yesterday for repainting. Heliconia 9M-MRD is
