Easyjet has announced new routes from Asturias (OVD) (a region in northern Spain) to Basel and Paris for 2009, just after the inaugural flight GVA-OVD which started a 3-weekly service yesterday. They already operate a daily service to STN and a 3-time-daily flight to Madrid. Do you think is Asturias likely to become a "small base" for Easyjet in northern Spain? I mean if U2 is likely to base at least 1 A319 at this aiport.

If they are busy with a domestic shuttle to MAD then I guess basing an aircraft may make sense at one point in time to offer an early morning connection OVD-MAD. easyJet usually looks more after business pax and routes than say FR does and so it would make sense as part of such a strategy.
On a sidenote, what is there to see in OVD/Asturias? I could be interested in checking-out the place one day, on their service from CDG or eventually on a service from home in BRU.
By the way, I'm seeing a lot of license plate holders with an Asturias coat of arms around Brussels, any reason for that?
Asturias (or Principality of Asturias) is a region in northern Spain. It's famous for its green landscapes (English tourists usually compare Asturias with Scotland) and its smart and sandy beaches. It is difficult to resume Asturias in a post, but here are some tips:
There are three main cities: Oviedo (the capital city) with a rich pre-romanesque history and a rich architecture, including its well known Gothic Cathedral, Gijón, a modern city with large beaches to enjoy as well as a wide range of activities such as the Atlantic Botanical Garden, the brand new Aquarium-spetialized in Cantabrian species- and the Laboral University, recently transformed into an attractive Modern Art Museum. The thirst biggest city is Avilés, also in the coast and with an interesting old town to visit.
An obliged visit if you come to the Principality of Asturias is Covadonga, a Sanctuary situated in the heart of Picos de Europa, the mountains that separate Asturias from León, the region situated in the south.
There are many other touristic sights that you can't miss such as Llanes, Cangas de Onís, Luarca or Cudillero.
For further information, just check the Asturias Information Office site (english):
I guess it will depend on how the 3 MAD-OVD flights perform during their first year. Maybe Easyjet could open 2 daily OVD-BCN flights targeting business travelers for a same day return. I took a lot of time for U2 to make the STN-OVD daily (I would say it was because they had to wait for the route to mature). I can see Easyjet slowly consolidating in OVD and will definitely become a base in the future...
