US Airways (ex-HP) 757s With Winglets?

At PHX this morning, I think I saw N908AW (former Cardinals plane) with brand new winglets -- and it looked awesome. If my eyes weren't deceiving me, does anyone know when this happened? Also, what is the timeframe for adding winglets to the rest of the US-West 757s?

IIRC US was planning on adding winglets to the 757's over a 2yr period. However not all 757's will get winglets. They are planning on retiring some of the older 757's and will put winglets only on the frames they intend to keep around for awhile.

Only 908, 909, and 910 are getting winglets from the ex-HP fleet.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

no . the west planes will only be getting the winglets . not the envoy seats unfortunately.

Unfortunately, overcapacity across the board in the airline business is one of its chief challenges today.

Will you be downsizing to A320s on DCA-PHX and DCA-LAS then? Those will be some very challenging if not impossible missions for A321s due to DCA runway length.

they are very interested in the 200's . it's too early to tell on the 300's which would be a great addition for the hawiian ops. but we have strong competion from fedex for the 200's since they have cash and we all know that cash is king. so to answer your question . it could go either way but the company is actively pursuing these a/c.

There are photos at TZ aircraft N518AT and N519AT sitting at Sky Harbor last week. Maybe that is a coincidence but I sort of doubt it.

US needs those 2003-built 757s to complete their intended fleet.

I would not expect US to try for the 757-300s unless they could get all 8. CO is likely to out-bid US for them.

319/320's currently operates DCA-PHX 2 of the 3 flights - A/C 828 was actually sent to DCA today on 46.

We will see 2 west birds and 2 east birds pop up with winglets by the fall. As mentioned 909, 910 after the summer season. 942 goes down to MCN in May and 939 follows in October.

Some of the West 757s are really hurting. I flew on 915 a few weeks ago, a jet built in 1984 for Eastern. Getting TZ's 752s would be a huge benefit for US in allowing to expand their fleet or to retire some of the older models.

SAN and LAX. Those are the only one's I've seen besides PHL and CLT.

We had a late night SFO departure on a 321 in the fall/winter, and we get 321s from PIT every so often. ORD and SEA seem like natural choices for new 321 flights, but that's just pure speculation on my part.

On the subject of 908, I guess that would explain why I haven't seen it in a while...

Actually, I was thinking SFO for some reason, but I then thought it was only on HP metal... Good to know, thanks.

As for the subject at hand, now more than ever am I annoyed that I don't work for US at SNA anymore. SNA gets 2 scheduled 757s every day and I would've been able to work it at some point... Oh well.

Scotty doesn't know...
