I would appreciate info from people familiar with CO OnePass redemptions or a CO Reservations agent.
I am trying to book KE, DFW-ICN-DFW or EK, IAH-DXB-IAH for outbound 11/22 or 11/23 return 11/28, 11/29 or 11/30.
A CO agent checked both carrriers for multiplr dates in November and there were no premum cabin or economy award seats available for booking. My question is do you think 7 months is to far out that award seats are not yet availlable?
Thanks.

Thanksgiving, not surprised at all. Could be blackout dates with the holidays too, though the legacy carriers are a little better at that.
We tried to get reward tickets in January 2004 for a trip to Hawaii that summer and they were gone already. So on July 4th, we called to secure our departure for May 31st, 2005 (331 Days Out) and managed to get them.

Last year, I booked an award ticket from Florida to Ohio for a wedding in a random weekend in October (19-21 I think). I had to try numerous airport combinations IN MAY to get a SkySaver reward for October. I eventually had to go with Skyteam partner NW for JAX-CVG after I tried everywhere out of DAB and out of MCO and quite a bit out of JAX before finally getting an option that worked.

If you head over to Flyertalk's CO board you might get some insight on how to structure the award...but on the flip side you're traveling over thanksgiving which happens to be one of the busiest times in the US aviation market, ergo reward seats may be slim pickings.

Keep a close eye on the partners and remember OnePass, while stingy on availability, can be generous on partner combinations. Do a little research on your own and figure out as many permutations to get from DFW to ICN (or IAH-DXB), call back to CO and have the agent manually check what you find.

I'd start by checking the gateways first (every city that KE flies into in America) on the date range your looking to travel, and once you've found the flight, work backwards to build in the domestic connections (and remember you can use NW, DL, CO and AS to do so). Also look at connections out of NRT (i.e. DFW -???- NRT -??? ICN) as you'll have a larger sampling of SkyTeam partner flights to pull inventory from (NW from SFO, MSP, DTW; CO from EWR, IAH; DL from ATL; etc.).

Ditto for DXB - first see if there's any space on their JFK flight. If not, start checking the gateways in Europe (CDG, LGW, LHR, FRA, etc) that you might be able to connect to from a SkyTeam flight. For example there might be space on DL from IAH-ATL-CDG and then award space on EK from CDG-DXB...you get the idea.

Hope that helped.

Do you have elite status w/ Onepass? That also drives availability. Back when I was a CO Plat, the wife was a Silver. If I logged in under her account, I saw much different award availability than if I was under my account.

The elite status does not play into anything when looking for reward seats on a partner such as KE. great for CO flights for sure however!

Thanksgiving is probably the problem...this past February I went on DL's website to see about getting SkySaver award tickets for this summer from NYC to Europe. Amazingly enough there was almost unlimited availability not on DL but on CO in June AND July...(plus I called and was told I could even fly AF if I was flexible). Funny thing was that while there was practically any seat open going to Europe in July, coming back, availability was quite precious...as luck would have it one of the few days all summer long that was available was departing from one of the cities I wanted to fly back from...so I'm flying both out and back on CO.

Perhaps I've just been lucky (or good with advance planning) but I've managed to score some pretty sweet deals at the 50K level on DL...not only this trip but my trip to EZE and GIG back in March of 07...and a 40K F ticket to YUL with only 3 months notice.

Thanks SkyTeam in advance for a great wedding present!!!

...and BTW CO, if you're listening, PLEASE don't leave SkyTeam! I don't want my happy menage-a-trois with AF, CO, and DL to have to end! Don't make me take sides!!!

Thank you,
FlyDeltaJets87/JEdward/TOLtommy/BNinMSY and EMB170.

Thanks for the feedback and helpful hints. I have zero status with CO just 163,000 miles to burn and would like to fly a carrier I have not flown, KE, EK, China Southern, BR. I was able to obatin a double connection from Dallas to DXB via ATL and CDG - DFW-IAH-ATL-CDG-DXB return but the CDG-DXB-CDG was in Y with all other flights in business class.

I will check all KE and EK gateways. When I tried China Southern to Canton via LAX, I got DFW-IAH-NRT on CO and then onward to Canton. I'll try KE from JFK, ORD and ATL and EK from JFK, IAH and LAX.
