Last I heard, Eastern Airways and Flybe were possibly considering operating this route, since Jet2 pulled out some time ago. But has anyone heard anything new since then?

Eastern Airways has announced a start-up, although to SVG rather than BGO, daily I believe it was (except Sat and/or Sun) on one of their Saabs or Beech a/c.. It's bookable now..

Yeah, I noticed that too. So at the moment that seems the best way to travel between western Norway and Newcastle at the moment. As far as I can see, Widerøe are only operating SVG-NCL once or twice a week, and right at the peak of dawn.

Anyway, I guess Eastern won't be starting a Newcastle - Bergen route now that they fly to SVG...

Should be up to 6 x weekly now, for the summer.
Eastern starting NCL-SVG from May 12th, using J41s  crazy

Can anyone tell me why there is even a market for flights between Newcastle and Western Norway. And while you're at it maybe you could explain why there is an information board in Danish in the Newcastle central station metro stop. Why are there all these links between the city and Scandinavia ?!?!?

Oil and gas. Norwegians like the cheap shopping at the Metro Centre. Geordies and Norwegians are alcoholics. Plus a few other bits and bobs  Wink

The Norwegians love Newcastle; let's not forget that Newcastle is the closest major city for people on Vestlandet (BGO-SVG area). DFDS sends around 1.000 people on minicruises to Newcastle each week, and hotel trips are really popular too.

Besides, Newcastle has its fair share of Viking blood, too - it's there the vikings entered the U.K... So Scandinavian relations have been around for 1.000 years  Smile

Or in my case, all the above in addition to relatives living there... hehe.

And helped shape the geordie accent I suspect... (so it's our fault then..)

You sure it's not the Saab2000s they currently use on the NCL-Aberdeen-SVG route? That's the impression I got off their website.

Sounds better, but if the flights are still as early in the morning as presently, then my money is on Eastern to carry the most passengers... Unless you live right next to the airport, catching that early Widerøe flight is a right kerfufle*

*Thank you Little Britain...
