Perth, PER, Australia.
Perth's international terminal has been temporarily closed by federal and state police due to a suspicious package that was about to be loaded onto an MH aircraft.
Singapore Airlines SQ215 is en route due to arrive at 2344.

wow, just mentioned that at the same time as you on another thread (JQ653 being turned back to Perth thread) when I was talking about the problems PER was having today.
It seemed minor just through the short mention of it on the news, how long was the terminal closed?

Quoting Andz (Reply 6): If it was about to be loaded how did it get through security?
Sounds a bit suss if you ask me, too. Considering that anything we ship internationally from my work, has to be at the airport the afternoon before, so that it can be security checked. How did this only come to light upon loading of the plane?
been shut since 5PM with un-accompanied freight arriving on MH which has now been deemed suspect.
CX was diverting to ADL but appears to be headed here now, just been told that they will be stuck on a taxiway for 3hrs plus, no departures at all for international.
Haha FlashFlyGuy. You obviously don't know Singapore_Air well enough. It is VERY significant news as it is of remote significance to Singapore Airlines Limited - A Member of Star Alliance.

Ha, I know Doc . In fact we've just been exchanging some PM's. He's cool, and picked up on my sense of humour there. There can only be one SQ Fanboy here on A.net, and Singapore_Air is it.

Quoting SInGAPORE_AIR (Thread starter): Perth's international terminal has been temporarily closed by federal and state police due to a suspicious package that was about to be loaded onto an MH aircraft.
It was 3 containers inbound to PER. My sister and parents were among those evacuated from PER today - they had checked in and were about to board MH 124 when federal police sealed the airport. First they closed off the MH gate area (arnd gates 4 & 5), then the entire departure lounge (EK from DXB landed, but passengers disembarked without collecting baggage, and aircraft was safely towed away to the domestic terminal), and finally the entire international terminal was shut down.
Cars were not allowed into the airport area, so the stranded passengers had to walk a good 15-20 minutes out to the main road to try to hail a cab. They are now staying overnight in town (no accommodation offer from MH), their bags have been loaded aboard the sole B777 at the international terminal and they're definitely not heading anywhere tonight.

LOL Oh jeez... But I met some people at KLIA this evening just getting off MH124 some 20 hours late - they certainly weren't laughing.

And I was certain that it was a durian, which would definitely be a threat to national security!
It was just a Chaser-style prank!

27 CupraIbiza: could this be some "stretching" of the truth from your freight company so you have the cargo ready earlier.......
29 Flymad: I'm curious as to what substance in fake flowers would trigger a security scare big enough to close down an entire airport? Anyone have any more info
30 Airpearl: It must have been a major embarrassment for the police - hence the reluctance to say what was in the packages. They even tried to imply it was some ki
31 Ikramerica: It wasn't the substance. It was that for some reason these three containers were not on the manifest. That is a huge security riskā¦
32 QANTAS077: it came down to who was receiving the shipment...her name is Masiha Minhaj and she arrived on the flight with 2 boxes and the ones loaded as freight.
33 QANTAS077: and too add insult to injury the woman went to collect her flowers today and was given the run around and left empty handed.
