I was searching the internet for a flight to Detroit this fall and on November 8th the LH/UA flight that I found on Opodo is scheduled to be a 744 (UA 9197 operated by LH).
I always thought LH only uses the A333 to DTW ?
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Quoting Twolz2rn (Reply 1): Maybe LH is dropping one of its nonstops but still wanted the capacity...be nice to see a non NW 747 at DTW!

Quoting WILCO737 (Reply 4): From what I read LH will send 744 to IAH as well

I don't think the overall seat capacity varies much between LH's 330 & 340, other than there are fewer Business Class seats on the 340, which can sometimes be a problem when an aircraft sub/switch is made at the last minute and there are more booked than there are seats. Not good.
Also, apparently the twice-daily DTW schedule will return next spring. Will be nice to see a 744 from LH for a while. And KLM is back also, so there is a little more variety @ DTW.

Quoting TwoLz2Rn (Reply 7): thought they only sent A333's? Is there a difference between the two?
The A340's operate the 3:50pm departure on Sunday only (333's the rest of the days).
The 10:20pm departure is operated with an A340 on Fridays and Saturdays, as well.

Thanks for the info.
Right now its double-daily A330.
Occasionally they will sub in an A340, in the past they'd also sub in a 744.
It probably makes better sense to run a single 744 during the winter than double-daily A330's due to lower overall demand and the current cost of fuel.

Quoting Davescj (Reply 11): It will be interesting, as BA is also upping to a 744.
If you are talking about IAH, they are......both flights.

They also typically brought in the 744 during certain times for the Detroit Auto Show

in terms of overall capacity this change is a decrease. compared to now they will have 16 Business and almost 100 Economy seats less with only one daily 744.

if we talk about the 3-class aircrafts the configuration on both the A333 and A343 is the same (8/48/165). There are some 2-class configured A343 (44/222) mainly used out of FRA. The most significant difference from passengers point of view is the availability of PTV onboard the A333s.

I would love to fly on a LH B744 DTW/FRA/DTW in August. I've flown on their A340's. and we are scheduled to fly on the 3:50pm departure A333 on August 14 and August 25, 2008. And I'm flying in Business class on all the flights including FRA/BUD and VCE/FRA.
But something different then a NW B744 would look nice in DTW this summer and fall.

After looking up flights to CPH in April, it is still in the schedules along with the 486/487 A333 evening flight. It may be a minor decrease in capacity (about 80 seats), but DTW has proven very high yielding for LH so they should be fine.

Schedule for summer 2009 is still a dummy schedule; it means nothing.
