Yesterday (Sunday, May 4) I was sitting relaxing with my g/f in a public park very close to LIN, that's a nice place and you can spot departing aircrafts passing overhead quite low. Though trees hide the view of runway 36R, you see the jets soon after gear retraction.

It was past 4 pm when I spotted a SAS MD-87 flying considerably lower than the other aircrafts, with non-retracted landing gear. It passed overhead and banked quite hard on the right making a 180° turn and then disappeared from my sight, gear was not retracted for all the time I had the aircraft in sight and it didn't seem to climb.

Since I stayed a couple of hours more and didn't see it taking off again, I was guessing if they may had some issues that prompted them to return to the airport or if it could have been a go-around.

I'm not asking you to speculate on what happened, but I was just curious to know if there is any way to check if an aircraft had some unplanned event. Thank you  Smile

From the SAS online timetable, the only flight they operate around that time on a Sunday is SK690, departing LIN at 1700, arriving at ARN at 1945.

Also from the SAS website, I get the following information :-

SK690 showed a scheduled 1700hrs departure.
Something wasn't right, and the aircraft returned to LIN at 1743hrs.
The website does not show when the flight re-departed, but it arrived at ARN at 0423hrs today.

That's enough to answer my question and I thank you very much for the info. My curiosity about what could have happened will remain unanswered but I'm satisfied to have spotted something was not right with that airplane  Smile

(Checking SAS website was enough... my bad! Big grin )

I know you asked for us not to speculate, so I won't ... but it's amazing how much information we can get by just posting here and asking.

I would like to think that I know tons about civil aviation.
But I also know there are many people that know much more.

By the way, that park sounds like a perfect place to enjoy two of life's best. Women and airplanes.
