For the last few days the UPS early evening flights to Orlando have been operated by MD-11 equipment...Is this going to be a regular visitor, or is it temporary to fill in for the missing airbuses??? Its nice having both Fed Ex and UPS with MD-11's in here at the same time!!!

I used to work for UPS at MSP, was a great job and a super company. Wish I could go back but teaching is a good gig too.
Did I miss something what's up with the missing airbuses?

Quoting RampGuy (Reply 5): FedEx operates an MD11 BNA-IND. Is this really a/c really needed on this route?

MD1's are not meeting the dispatch reliability needed for INTL. Ours don't shut down too long so they are used constantly. 1 flight in 18 right now has a mech. As the 74y delivers you will see more MD1's going domestic. The new 76's will fill in INTL as well.

Any idea when we might see the 744 in SYD ??
I have heard from local UPS staff that the inbound is always full, however as the outbound is mainly a positioning flight to SIN it is usually just about empty.

Quoting Lexy (Reply 13): Ever heard of Dell Computers just to name one.
No, never heard of them at all. What I do see from that flight is a lot of perishables. We're talking about 3 full AMJ containers of 40 lbs boxes filled to the top.

The FX flights in question are hold-over flights. They leave half loaded, sometimes more, land, pick up additional freight, and continue to their final destination. We use these flights to move cans, skids, or ballast pallets. FedEx does this ALL the time. eg. MEM-IND-OAK or BIL-BOI-OAK or MEM-AUS-ELP. Certain outstations don't warrant an 11 or 10 and won't get more than a baby bus or 27 daily so we use the hold over space to accommodate their ramp. The Nashville and Orlando flights listed above are perfect examples.

Quoting GEG2RAP (Reply 9): sorry to double post on this but is this true?? Is there a mechanical problem with the A300's
Sorry to triple post this but what is up with the Airbuses? They were operating out of MCO last week and the MD-11 replaced the A300 on the SDF-MCO route, however DFW-MCO is still an A300 last I checked.
Are there some Airbuses out of service or are they being rerouted to smaller airports that perhaps just saw service from 727s and 757s?

Nothing Wrong with the airbus. UPS is starting to bring the MD-11 Domestic so some Gateways will be upgraded from the A-300 to the MD-11's. Those A-300's will start replacing the DC-8's in other places. UPS will add 7 DC-8' s to Storage at ROW by years end.
