CO Leaving APF

Last day is May 31.

I think this leaves APF with no airline service. Sad, because about 7-8-9 years ago, they had about 5-6 airlines.

Maybe AE will come back.

Really? Because not too long ago, Delta Connection left and CO was right in there (idk the time frame, so don't hold me to this) to pick up service. Interesting and sad. And Reply 2, CO is Cape Air at APF.

It is being operated by Gulfstream International with B1900's. Yellow Air Taxi has flights to the keys, but thats it for commercial service. It will be sad to see them go.

I just think that it was redundant for them to fly to Ft. Myers, and they have a lot of service to Ft. Myers. It's only 32 miles between the airports, most if it on I-75 with a high speed limit.

I hope CO doesn't cut SRQ though. It's a twice the distance from SRQ-TPA than between the two above airports, and with traffic, can take a while.

APF doesn't want fares much higher than RSW but costs to serve APF are much higher. There are lots of cities that will not work given current fuel prices.

That's why I'm worried about SRQ, but I know they dropped fees there which lead to an increase in service. I'm just afraid that even though the ERJ/CRJs are full going to IAH, the economics are such that they will cut it anyway, and only serve SRQ from EWR. Which means I'll be flying your favorite DL more often!  Smile

Yeah but have you ever attempted to drive that 32 miles in mid January? Traffic on I-75 is at best horrid when the "snowbirds" arrive........but the Bonita Springs, Vanderbilt Beach, and N. Naples folks probably all use RSW anyway.

Yeah, not to mention the construction project they have going on now that stretches most of that 32 miles.

still not as bad as the causeway into Tampa at rush hour. And if there's an accident, it's worse.

Looks like CO has ADDED an IAH-SRQ. Now it's a CRJ RON, and also an ExpressJet ERJ afternoon return.

Seems really strange to have Expressjet and Chataqua on the same route daily, especially because at that point a 735 would just make more sense, have a more direct routing, be faster, etc. Hopefully this bodes well for a 737 upgrade in the future?

They may be letting the traffic patters settle, and/or waiting for metal to be moved from a seasonal route.

I hear that driving in Florida can rival that of New Yorkers, Rhode Islandites, and Massholes at times!

CO is also leaving Gainesville the same day. It's the fuel prices that are killing it.

AA really could use some 19-30 seat planes for intra-Florida/Bahamas flying. They could probably make these smaller markets work form MIA with the hub they have there. It is much more difficult for other airlines to do it.

Notice they're all FLA, and all pretty much leisure fare markets, with really no business-driven customers. Those kind of markets are going to see more loss of service if gas continues to rise.

MIA-GNV is hardly a leisure market. Lot's of education traffic, including plenty of walk-ups. The flight's did awesome at $60 fuel; $120? Not so much. They are competing with driving, and while people were gladly paying $220 r/t to save the drive, those fares don't work at today's fuel prices.

Isn't all that strange to have ExpressJet and Chautauqua both on a route the same day, IAH-OKC and IAH-DFW used to have both plus CO as well, IIRC both still do have all 3 flying.

As for the flight time, the only reason the B735 would be less time is due to the over water route used with the LEV1 SID to LEV and across the Gulf rather than over land and around the corner of the panhandle.

These are the Beeches that Gulfstream is sending north for EAS flying, which may actually be more profitable these days.

MOB has seen RP and XE for a while now. IIRC, PNS does as well. PNS has not seen a CO 737 in years.
