A few weeks ago the first converted 747-400 freighter has been delivered to Kalitta, no photos though have emerged since. Is it not yet in service? Only thing I know its been christened "Doug Kalitta Sr 1", and that its painted in the familiar red and gold.

I got a feeling they are doing base training on it. Kalitta may not have the to pay for sim time for their pilots. + the plane has to go through all the FAA tests and getting the proper suffix for it can file for the FAA and declare what it has on board for ICAO flight plans, also what the pilots can do(RNAV(GPS) approaches SAAAR for RNAV(RNP), etc.) just like WOAs 747s did a few weeks back. Give it till mid-summer maybe. There is a Kalitta pilot on youtube, maybe you can find him and ask. He has a few 747-200 videos and I think his name has FLL in it. Not certain though.

On a side note, would be great if it popped its head into YIP one day especially if I was holding short for it!!!!

Kalitta's 744 appears about half way through this video- pretty sharp!

Thanks, now I remember, its the 744 with the longest storage time ever - since 2003, ex MAS and not a JAL aircraft, where reportedly the other Kalitta 744 BCFs will come from.

Was going to comment on this but then checked your age in your profile  yawn

Anyway, great to see a CKS 744 in full colours. This should help to increase their ACMI activities outside of their military business. Rising fuel prices will drive -100s/-200s out of this segment.

From your lack of knowledge about Connie's operations you must still live too far away.
He does have a 747 sim in Michigan. Drive north and make your comment to his face.
PS. make sure your daddy has dental insurance for you before going.  wink

Not at all am I saying that. I have always been under the impression that Connie is not in the BEST of finances.

Wow ok, good comment. They may have a 747 sim but not a 744

Considering the fact that they are a privately held company and therefore are not required to release any financial reports, you are right, you do only have a little idea. Think what you want about the man personally, or his practices, he does have a history of success. I know a few ATA folks that are placing their bets on that record.

Bring her to GRR- we've got a nice 10,000' runway and controllers used to lots of pattern work done by KC-135's out of MKE and MTC (Selfridge)

If they don't have the money to pay for the sim time, why and how are they buying the planes? CKS is making alot of money right now, high volume, low profit keeps the planes flying around the clock and making money.

It is a 747 Classic sim bought from KLM a couple years ago. I am pretty sure they will be in the market for a 400 sim in the not so distant future.

Damn, it was supposed to be at the end of last week, then the end of this week(my week off of course) now it is moved to my week I am on the road, just my luck. To my knowledge, it will be the first 744 ever at YIP. I've seen 100's, 200's and 300's over the years but not a 400 series.

That is really cool, I haven't heard that one yet. I know it is painted and I was gonna fly with the old man up there last week but no joy.

Heads up Detroit spotters, she's at YIP right now!

Came in sneakily this morning at 6:16am from OSC and scheduled to go back at around 8:30. Not sure if it will be back or not today but I will be watching flightaware and probably head up there.

According to their website, it is on the schedule today as follows....looks like EWR tonight.

Flight ID : CKS9740 Flight No. : 31450 Tail No. : N73714 Equipment : 747
ETD KOSC 5/22/2008 10:00 UTC ETA KYIP 5/22/2008 11:15 UTC
ETD KYIP 5/22/2008 12:15 UTC ETA KOSC 5/22/2008 13:30 UTC
ETD KOSC 5/22/2008 14:00 UTC ETA KYIP 5/22/2008 15:15 UTC
ETD KYIP 5/22/2008 16:15 UTC ETA KOSC 5/22/2008 17:30 UTC
ETD KOSC 5/22/2008 18:00 UTC ETA KYIP 5/22/2008 19:15 UTC
ETD KYIP 5/22/2008 20:15 UTC ETA KEWR 5/22/2008 22:15 UTC

Looks like the winds are favoring 5R for takeoffs and landings which would get you pretty close to it on arrival. I'll be on the ramp Smile

Just arrived in EWR 15 min ago. Looks like she's headed for Liege on the 25th at 4:30pm as "Connie 343". If anyone could get pics or videos, that'd be awesome!
