Thai New Color Scheme Revised?

Hi everyone!

Recently I was looking for pictures of Thai Airways planes wearing new colors. I noticed one interesting thing.
The newly delivered planes in new colors, like B772 HS-TJS

have their horizontal stabilizers painted in regular grey color, the same as on the wings,

while planes wearing this livery for pretty long time, such as HS-TGO,

have their horizontal stabilizers painted in purple.

I noticed also that one of their 777-300s in new colors had purple stabilizer in 2006

My question is: Is it going to be a new standard for all TG planes or Boeings only and what's the reason for such a repaint?

I don´t know but it looks far better with the purple stabilizers. Maybe one of those dreadful beancounters wants to save a few baht? Love to hate those guys.

Is this sarcasm? Bit hard to tell... to me it clearly looks like the stabs were painted.

Some airlines do. Have a look at Brussels Airlines for instance!

There can be no unpained wings or horizontal stabs. Paint is protection from environment and is very important. Maybe you meant that most airlines use light grey for them? Yes, most of them do, but not all  Smile

Look at the stabilzers of Hs-TGO, they´re purple, 100% sure, You can even see the paint peeling of at the leading edge. I´ve also seen several Thai aircraft in close-up. Maybe its the peeling that led to a decision to dispense with the purple paint on them.

The horizontal stabilizers are painted purple on every aircraft except the Boeing 777 models. There are some antennas and other things inside there (can't remember exactly what it was) and with the purple coat they had some problems. So they decided not to paint them on the 777. Maybe another airliners.net member can explain a bit more.

I wonder if S7 Airlines paint their horizontal stabs? Heck, I think these guys would paint the tires green if they could !

S7 paints the wings and horizontal stabilisers on at least some of its 737s and TU-154s, but not on any of its Airbuses.

It will appear TG have gone for the more conventional plain grey to save costs... and as for "Nobody" painting wings or horizontal stabs... S7 ring any bells...
