Seatguru says that there are PTV's in J class. Doesn't say if that's AVOD.

I was under the impression that most of the MD-11 fleet, if not all, had been upgraded to feature the new WBC seats and the new Y seats minus AVOD and PTVs.
Last time I checked one MD-11 had been installed with AVOD in Y.

This is from the KLM website, but it only talks about upgrades to the 747s in J and a generic statement of 12 video and audio cha

I haven't heard anything to suggest otherwise. I'll be able to tell you more in a weeks time as I have 6 MD-11 stretches coming up (3 different aircraft)

Quoting Bentley55 (Reply 8): how many KLM MD-11s have had the new WBC installed?
By the latest count, just 3 of 10 aircraft have had the new seats installed. They are PH-KCA, PH-KCB and PH-KCG. All of the other aircraft are still with the old WBC seats and ditto entertainment system, yet have the new 24-seat WBC cabin configuration. KLM rotates all of its MD11 aircraft throughout the network, so it is your best guess whether your flight will feature the new seats and entertainment system. Do make sure you get yourself a seat in the first WBC cabin, which contains rows 1 and 2 and which is s haven of privacy nowhere else found in KLM's longhaul fleet.
As a side note, 20 out of 22 B747s have now been reconfigured with the new seats. Only PH-BFF and PH-BFK remain in old configuration and these aircraft will undergo a D-check and cabin retrofit over the summer.
The KLM MD11 fleet if often plagued by technical issues and its dispatch reliability is not all that great. You may check out a daily overview of KLM longhaul operation, including aircraft registrations, in this thread.

To give you an idea that KLM does not assign specific aircraft to specific routes, here is a list of the MD11s that have been deployed on the AMS PTY route since it was launched on March 30:

Thanks a lot for the information. Which seats are more comfortable for sleeping, the new WBC or the older version?

I much prefer the older seats for sleeping but if you are an inflight entertainment buff, you will be disappointed with the old system. The new IFE is top notch.
