Is the A-340 at Goodyear being parted out or going through a C or D check? It is the 16th A-340 built and would be the first to be parted out if that is what is happening

from what I heard from the guys at the local flight school is that it is an ex Virgin bus that kept having gear malfunctions or collapses....etc, getting parted out....and yeah, it's hard to miss it sitting there, you should be able to see it from Litchfield Rd.

Ok, wait for the RJ to pass, cleared to push tail south Mike, and you're cleared to spin #2 in the push.

It flew in on July 20th last year; to be parted out by Aeroturbine. It was flown in by Lufthansa Technical Services.

I think almost all of the ATCA and OATC students based on the airport turned out to watch it arrive!

I it is ex G-VSKY, and more recently 9Y-JIL. It flew into GYR under the reg D-AEIL

It was in the hangar on April 9th, so presumably was still in there on your visit.

Kind of suprised that a certain airline based in the same state (Arizona) didn't snap that one up, it's been rumored that they are looking for A340's from anywhere to start up services to China...  Wink

She's the VS bird that landed on one MLG a few years back - IIRC the airframe was a little bent ever after but not bad enough to scrap her, and she had reliability issues recently when she was with beewee.

She is a 311 model I think, not a more capable 313X model, and has less thrust and range than the "normal" -300. She was 93 built I think - lovely video of her landing at MAN on YouTube/ FL35 - very graceful.

I found one of her taking off in better days...

Sad to see her go.

She was a hangar queen I understand - also not sure the lower MTOW 311 could do PHX - China non-stop with max payload.

Just sad to see the first A-340 scrapped but like the one 777 that has been scrapped in Arkansas we will just have to accept it

Hmmm. Probably couldnt have done PHL either to be honest. Thats a seriously long flight. Was it PEK or PVG they were planning to serve?

Well, they decided not to acquire an 8th 340, but by no means are they scaling back their fleet of 340s. Shorthaul aircraft on the other hand, is a different story...

No I meant they were scaling back the fleet in general, not necessarily the 340 fleet.
