Martinair Retro Jet And € 69 Mi Loss In 2007

In the Dutch newspaper "de Telegraaf" from thursday 15 may 2008, a pic was shown from a Boeing 767 painted in MAC (Martin's Air Charter) colours to celebrate the company being 50 years old.
Due to copyright I cannot post the pic
But here is a link to the page of the Newspaper
http://telegraaf-i.telegraaf.nl/dail.../15/TE/TE_2S_20080515_7/pagina.php
The registration is however not to read. I guess the a/c is PH-MCL which was the last B767 still flying in old colours.

Also in the news today was the annual financial report of Martinair.
The company suffered a loss of € 69 mi.
The main reason for the loss was given to (fleet) reorganisation and the European flights (which were terminated in autumn 2007)

Looks good; great to see another European carrier going retro.

Any update on plans by AF/KL to acquire Martinair?

Great! When will PH-MCL fly commercially for the first time in this livery and when will it fly to CUR? I love retrojets and special liveries! We need more of those here in CUR!

Is Martinair still doing short haul med/canaries IT work? I hope so because we need some airlines to see at these destinations other than TUi and TCX

Martinair dropped all European routes which would include the Canary Islands. If you go to their website you will see which routes they serve now. They now only fly to the United States, Canada, Central America and the Caribbean.

A very nice retro paint design. Apart from the tail fin design this cheatline is THE proof that there comes a days that the cheatline will make a comeback. In those days this particular Martinair livery was designed by the most respected Dutch aviation fine art painter, aviation photographer, designer, writer and publisher Thijs Postma!

I agree, as far as I can see, there is only a minor variation on the original scheme.
The name of the a/c "Koningin Beatrix" is in white letters on the blue cheatline behind the flightdeck windows.
In the old days the names were in blue or black on the -unpainted- nose/belly under the cheatline and more to the nose of the a/c.

Yes, I was lucky indeed! I am very happy to have seen this nice retro livery and of course to be able to photograph it too! A well done livery which makes for a bit more variety among our usual liveries flying around. A combination of the new Martinair livery and those nice cheatlines on this retro livery wouldn't be a bad move, it would look pretty well in my opinion. Unfortunately the cost savings will mean no additional cheatlines in the Martinair livery as adding the cheatlines means adding weight to the aircraft. Who knows once Martinair is back on track financially they can re-introduce cheatlines.

In any way good luck to Martinair  Smile

Did I miss any? What's weird, the MP 763 is only the second widebody retro jet (if my list is complete that is). It's not like a lot of these retro schemes require a lot of paint. Anyway, here's hoping for more additions to this wonderful trend!!

Hi Kappel, how are you doing? You are absolutely right, I also like special liveries and retrojets which is why I was so happy to see this retrojet arrive here in Curacao. This is also the first Dutch retrojet, is that correct?

Indeed, and IMHO this is one of the nicest retro jets, right up there with LH and TK! Always nice to see the retro scheme on a widebody!

Hi, it has been a while since i posted on A.net (not really bussy anymore with aviation) but there are things going to happen within Martinair soon.

I met a guy on my flight back home who is working in the MP management, so can't tell to much, but the choice of the 767 replacement is defenite, and a lot of routes will be added and cancelled. MP will concentrate on certain markets and there is more news, but guess you all have to wait a couple of more months  Wink sorry
