Going to be flying out of Heathrow in a couple of weeks. My flight isn't until 5:00 pm, but I was thinking of getting there several hours early to see the SQ A380 leave at 11:55. Since I will be flying out of T4, I was thinking of getting a day pass to the Holideck and using their observation deck.
Someone told me that the deck is pretty far from everything however, and not a good spotting location. Anyone have better ideas? Standing around outside at some fence for several hours is not necessarily what I am looking for, but are there better viewpoints I could check out to see this bird?

I always go to Hatton Cross . It is maybe not what you want to do but you do get good views if they are taking off over it . I took this video 10 days ago at 1155am.

I rarely use T4 and have never used the Holideck. I don't know anyone who has.
I tried to see the A380 on my last trip out of LHR, but it wasn't there when it should have been.
Also seeing it take-off or land would depend on which runway was in operation. It might be difficult to plan to be in the right place and the right time on such a short trip.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

See it? Fly it - inexpensively - when EK1 (DXB-LHR) and EK2 (LHR-DXB) are operated by the 380 from around Dec this year. Could, say, fly EK LHR-DXB-PVG/PEK-DXB-LHR for about £440 early next year incl. taxes. That would mean that on average your LHR-DXB 380 flight would cost around £110 including taxes.

Yeah, except that it is still nearly out of my budget to be able to fly to LHR. The A380 may be commonplace around there, but I very likely will not be. So I guess that may be my best chance. Hopefully I will have internet where I stay that prior evening and I can see where they are forecasting takeoffs from. Do the usually use the north or south runway?
