I could not find this posted - apparently, an engine caught fire while the plane was taxiing. All passengers are safe, from what I can tell. Does anyone have more information?

It was a Charter. New Orleans Hornets NBA sports team flew in from SAT. Engine caught fire upon arrival. Many believe its a bad, very bad, omen for tonights Game 7.

I find it hard to believe that DL would use a CRJ for an NBA charter. Are you sure?

The Spurs are my team, but if the Hornets win is fine with me, more for the people in NO, God knows they need a some happy times after this past years.
May be the Hornets are so hot at home that the produced the spontaneous combustion of the engine. Big grin  Big grin  Big grin

The Hornets have been using YX MD-80's this season. Not sure what happened to their 727-200...guess fuel costs got too high.

The Spurs flew into MSY yesterday on a Champion 727.

No way. The Hornets nor any NBA I seriously doubt would ever use an RJ. Can use imagine 7 foot tall players trying to sit in one of those seats? Plus, they fly in and out of MSY, not BTR.

The Hornet 722 N777KY is up for sale,

but for the last couple flights, they have used a Swift 734.

Not sure what they'll do for next season, maybe go with the DL/NW special charter 319's?

redflag  Why on Earth would they 1) be flying into BTR and not MSY/NEW, or 2) be doing so in a CRJ?

Anyone else smell a little BS?

Not to pile on, but the Hornets do not charter on an RJ. Secondly, they flew back to MSY after game 6 last Thursday night. Third, this incident occurred yesterday. Finally, the Hornets fly into/out of an airport a lot closer to New Orleans...namely MSY  wink

It's been sitting on the north GA ramp for a number of months now...as 71Zulu notes, it's up for sale.

The Hornets usually fly on N727NY, a 727 operated by Ryan International Airlines, on behalf of Red Apple Aviation. The aircraft at that time was being used to transport HRC.

LOF did hauled Richmond Spyeders basketball team to an from RIC to PIT and the same with Ducane (or however you spell it) from PIT to RIC and back. WIth regular pax. Yeah that was fun getting the service cart down the aisle of an EMB145. Seeing as how they are college teams, they were actually smart enough to move their legs out of the aisle for me to push the service cart.

As far as those engine fires, you'll have that sometimes.... Kind of funny how something like that has to happen at an outstation and never at home.
