YYZ Question.

I was wondering about the midfield terminal at YYZ. It was used before as the arrival and departure gates for the international flights while T-1 ws under construction. What are they using it for now? I saw a Canjet 737-200 there yesterday, but I don't have any idea as it what is was there for.

The last time we chatted about this a guy who does computers for GTAA told us that there were only three gates left with computers, So only three gates are available for aircraft. At that time they were being kept in case they were needed. The Canjet aircraft you saw could be the one they use to test new gates. It doesn't have engines and is towed into position and then they can practice deploying the jetway. Aircraft are occasionally parked there but I haven't seen anyone use the terminal in ages. While we are on GTAA - has the additional gate in T1 on the side of the demolished T2 been openned yet?

The engineless aircraft belonged to Royal didn't it? That engineless aircraft is still parked next to the de-icing facility so the Canjet that was seen at the infield was likely their B733.

A long time ago, I was told that the infield terminal would become another dedicated cargo facility. Later, I heard that Transat was going to move all of their flights there in exchange for a cost reduction on their airport fees.

Who knows?

When that area was busy, it caused a lot more complexity for ground control that's for sure.

Yup that is the aircraft. My bad. The Infield Terminal was built to be easily modified into a cargo facility. Whether that will be needed or not is another story. I would think it will be a while before the next phase of Terminal 1 is built. Air India is moving there from Terminal 3. Since AC isn't going ahead with their dedicated cargo airline I would imagine there is plenty of space for aircraft to unload in the area between Air Canada's Cargo building and the General building. How much more warehouse and airside parking would be needed is unknown but it appears that things are not overly crowded.
