Hey Guys:
Many people on this site have flown TWA before when they were in operation and I always thought about how much it cost to fly TWA in both Economy and of course Ambassador Class in the 1990s to Europe, such as Athens, Rome, Tel Aviv, Madrid, I also believe Cairo was served by them in that time too.
Heres a link to a TWA 747 Museum with the 747 Ambassador class that was posted in another topic I started quite some time ago.
On A side note- even though this isn't in the TR form, id still love to hear stories on these flights, as chances are when you flew on these trips- I was too young to even know what a 747 was. ( as I am 19 years old.)
ALL views, opinions expressed are mine ONLY and are NOT representative of those shared by Southwest Airlines Co.

My Aunt flew MSY-JFK-FCO on TW in June 1992 (727 connecting to 747)....ticket was $1200 r/t in Y, she gave me her receipt and BP's which I still have today. That price is pretty comparable to what it is today for a trip like that in June. As a side note, she sent me a postcard from Rome telling me that "TWA was a garbage can airline and the service was awful!". I was just jealous she was getting on a 747, I could care less about the service.

They had these great domestic student packs where you got four one-way trips for $500. So basically $250 RT anywhere you wanted to go except HI and AK.

I flew SLC-DEN-JFK-ATH in '92 for $975.00 A bit lower than now, as on CO a ticket SLC-EWR-ATH would run me $1200.00

My folks have pics of us on the ramp in ATH on the boarding steps hooked up to a 747SP. THOSE were the days!
Quoting Jetdeltamsy (Reply 5): The were misguided into believing they could charge more because people were willing to pay more to fly with them. American was the same way.
American was only that way becasue they had the yield management muscle to do so.
Woohoo! Back to Beirut in Oct '13! (Along with a stop in DOH for 4 days)

You're right there. American was actually able to command a premium over lower cost companies. People were truly wilin to fly American. I just don't think TWA had enough faithful, deep-pocketed, repeat customer.....especially as they shrunk so drmatically the last few years they were around.
Worked for too many airlines to list. Banktupcy after bankruptcy after bankruptcy.
Because at that point, people were fedup with th ludicrous levels of carriers such as PeoplExpress. I remember as a kid my parents allowed my cousin to pick me up in EWR at PEX's old North Terminal. The crowds were unbelievable, and people were laying about EVERYWHERE.

TWA lust its luster and its high-yielding pax after Icahn sold off our LHR routes.
