Hey folks,

I am sitting at my sister-in-law's house in northwest Houston. The planes seem to have altered their approach into IAH just slightly. Each one is lower and further south than I am used to seeing.

I just saw this... plane. I'm a n00b when it comes to aviation so take my next sentence with a pillar of salt: It was the biggest plane I've ever seen.

The colors were dark blue and white. The tail had three white diagonal stripes on dark blue. The rear wheels numbered at least six in two columns. You can guess it moved very slowly. It landed around 530pm CST.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Cheers,

M

IAH is a frequent destination for Antinovs. Never got to see one land there though, only saw them on the ground when landing or circling.

Must be loading up in Houston?

That's a 4492.8 nautical mile trip. Fully loaded, 4500 nm; empty, 8900.

Your lucky! I've only seen one once before in much a similar fashion. It was presumably on approach for RIV. Sounded loud and looked up and I quickly narrowed it to an A-124.

The An-225 comes to IAH every once in a blue moon as well. This was a flight bringing a high capacity generator to be used after the Hurricanes of 2005.

I saw one landing at IAD bringing in an engine for a 747 that had gone technical while en route to China. Engine hops are a great place to see them. Also go to Charleston SC. They have almost daily flights to Iraq where they fly the Mine Resistant Armored Personnel Carriers (MRAPs). They have the charter service for those into country. Theres a thread floating around here where they talk about that. Great Spot especially for a "noob".

We see them quite often in YYZ usually with fuselages for the Q400's being build at Bombardier's Dehaviland plant. Also occasionally to fill up with relief suppliers or other large shipments.

The AN-124 is parked over by the UPS ramp on the East side right now. I was driving by on my way to the Whataburger and saw this HUGE Blue fin from over the cargo buildings. Then it came into view, DAMN, that thing is big. Last time I saw one was in SLC for some car races.

It very much looks like An-124-100 of Volga-Dnepr airlines. Definitely.

There are plenty of AN124's in Kuwait - saw quite a few last week. They were standing next to Galaxy C-5s and B747-200Fs. They dwarf the 747 but more or less on par with the C-5s.

Actually last week there were alot of freighters that are normally not here, like the US Airforce Globemaster and MD-11F and DC-10F. The NW 747-200 with windows has been here 2-3 times over last few weeks that I have seen. Thinking about it now, there were also quite alot of B767s

Yes this is a one of a kind aircraft at the moment, i have be lucky enough to see it 3 times in different places. As for the 124 they fly over regularly going to Manchester and Woodford.

IAH I can understand, but I was driving in to work one day, and I saw 2 OF THE SMALLER ONES AND A BEAST AT THE SAME TIME IN MEM!!!!!!!! I almost ran off the road! WTF were they doing in MEM?!?!?!?!? Anyway, they were in and out for about a month. Our longest runway, 18/36C, is 11120 ft long. The Beast almost ran out of runway on takeoff from 18C one day. Another time I saw it take off, it must have been nearly empty because it was off the ground a little over halfway down the field.  airplane   eyepopping   airplane
