That's great. Where did you get this info? Keep it coming every now and again. I love the airplane. Some deep seated and irrational reverence for lockheed aircraft. (it's the airplane nerd in me...lol)

Cool! Nice info about one of my favorite aircraft. But sad to see the fleets shrinking.  Sad

That is an outstanding piece of work!!! Awesome in every aspect!!! I'm disappointed to see these beautiful planes becoming a rare species, tho. But it's great to see some are holding their own. Please keep this type of report coming. Can you do one on the 747SP?? I'm looking forward to any more you may do. Thanks & regards.  Wink/being sarcastic

Great work, Daniel.

Are most ex-CX 1011's now out of service? Do you know what happened to VR-HHY, the last CX TriStar?
I flew it on the farewell flight and was told it was probably going to Air Atlanta.

Thanks for the information. You should put up a 1011 website. There's an excellent one for the 747 SP but I lost the address.

Hi Hugo,

As far as ex-CX 1011s go, I can tell you that 2 are currently still active with Air Transat, that would be C-GTSX (-1/ex VR-HMW) and C-GTSB (-100/ex VR-HHL). They had another one: C-GTSK (-1/ex VR HOE) which was scrapped in November 2000.

TSX and TSB are supposed to be the next ones Air Transat plan to retire from their fleet (before spring 2002).

As far as active Air Transat aircrafts go:

C-FTNA (-150/ex Air Canada)
C-FTNC (-150/ex Air Canada)
C-FTNG (-150/ex Air Canada)
C-FTNH (-150/ex Air Canada)
C-FTNL (-100/ex Air Canada)
C-GTSB (-100/ex Cathay Pacific)
C-GTSX (-1/ex British Airways)
C-GTSZ (-100/ex All Nippon Airways)
C-GTSP (-500/ex TAP Air Portugal)
C-GTSQ (-500/ex TAP Air Portugal)
C-GTSR (-500/ex TAP Air Portugal)
C-FTSW (-500/ex ALIA)
C-GATH (-500/ex Air Lanka)
C-GATM (-500/ex Air Lanka)

They will retire most of the -1s/-100s/-150s when the 310s come in, but expect to keep the -500s until 2006.

Thanks for your positive response to all!

VR-HHY (S/N 1051) was ferried to Air Atlanta as TF-ABU and sub-leased to Monarch Airlines in the summer seasons from 1997 thru 2000. The aircraft was put into storage in November 2000 and is scheduled for spare use. Air Atlanta is currently forcing the replacement of their L-1011s but plans may change (or being delayed). TF-ABU performed 56,517 hours on 28,323 cycles.

Yes the tristar is a beauty, I had the priviledge of maintaining them as a worldways ame. Worlways 1011's had the lower lounge where passengers could unwind
and have a drink in the forward lower belly.

A great topic as well as an update on the status of the remaining TriStars. However, BWIA has inactivated 1 of its 4 TriStars. Whether it is a temporary storage or otherwise I am not sure but it has been sitting engineless in POS for a while.

Hop to it, fly for life!

Please keep in mind that the above status is effective as of 31-12-2000. If BWIA did not report one of its four -500s put into "inactive" status until that date, this fact does not appear.

Which does remind me.

Does anyone know how long will ATA keep its L10 fleet? I think ATA may continue to operate them until 2007-2008, at which point they may replace them with a modern widebody twinjet. They're going to have to anyways since the L10 is one of the few planes that have a specific clause about retiring the planes after so many airframe hours.

Maybe ATA should start taking with GECAS or ILFC about possibly doing a long-term lease on new higher-weight A330-300's to fly the SFO-HNL and LAX-HNL routes.

As discussed several times in the past weeks, ATA did not make any decision regarding their L-1011 replacement. They will phase out some longbody medium-range L-1011s when the B757-300s arrive. However, they still did not select a replacement for their medium to long-range L-1011s (-100, -150) and, in particular, for their long-range -500s.

I would expect them to order the B767 (-300 and/or -400) but the A330-200 is another option.
