I am flying Qantas in about 3 weeks. I'm trying to get my seat assignments. I am using my AA FF account. I see my seat assignments for my 1st flight which is on AA. Is there anyway I can view my Qantas assignment or no?

P.S. All I have is an AA record locator

If you called QF in the US, and asked them for your Amadeus record locator, you would then be able to view your booking via qantas.com. This will usually show any seat assignment.
Of course, you could just call QF and ask them to pre-seat you anyway? The QF seating system will normally assign random seating suggestion if AA made the booking via Sabre, and as such there are probably better alternatives available.

No it won't. Not unless a request is made (window/aisle etc), or you have a QF/BA frequent flyer number with an associated profile, with a seat preference recorded.

This is your People To People trip isn't it? As you're travelling in a group don't be surprised to find that seating on the QANTAS flight is allocated to the group by surname. In other words, you get what you're given. They usually seat groups such as yours together, on board. You can usually negotiate "swapsies" amongst yourselves AFTER take -off.

Qantas don't usually allocate seats for domestic flights until 24 hours before the flight(domestic) international flights is usually allocated when you make the booking.

The new check-in system QF have started rolling out (Altea) actually determines a theoretical seat assignment for each passenger even if no seat is actually requested or allocated, so it knows where it wants to sit you based on your customer characteristics (group, family, special assistance, UMNR etc) and value (FF tier) - it recomputes eveyone's theoretical seat and shuffles all non seated passengers around whenever a passenger is assigned a seat, to make sure everyone gets the seat they should. It's pretty clever - it means it's not necessary in pre-flight to assign a seat to everyone, which in the old system made it tricky to move people around when required. This way the system tracks it and makes sure people who need to sit together can do so, etc.

How will this effect those who have already pre selected/requested seats ?

It won't. If you have a confirmed assigned seat, that is your assigned seat. The seat you have requested and been assigned was authorised by QF's seating rules in the inventory system, and the DCS system uses exactly the same rules to work out theoretical seating too. A seat once assigned, will not be reassigned automatically by the system except if there is an aircraft or configuration change and the same seat for whatever reason is no longer available to you. Seats can be reassigned by a human in case of operational need as well, which is why no seat assignment is ever 100% guaranteed.

Yes it is. I wanted to just see if I could see where I am sitting. Doesn't really matter where but I just wanted to see if I got an isle or if I am stuck in the middle.
