Hello
A couple of months ago in October i saw a SAS commercial being played in the hold area in BGO. The commercial had some kind of nostalgic theme. First there was a man being helped cacross the street by a police officier. Then there was a woman coming in to a restaurant where she immidietly got her coat taken by a waitor who then led her to her table. In the end there was a text saying "Things were better before" "Now we're reintroducing service". Have anyone of you seen the commercial? Does anyone have any idea of what they ment with reintroducing service? This was seven months ago and i still haven't gotten seen any "service" from them.

It would be nice, I haven't seen the commercial and I haven't seen the improvement in service either.

Yes, reintroducing service would be nice. Like a soft drink service for Y passengers in Europe!

Basically what they mean is that now you get a free breakfast in Y on all SAS flights before 9 (I think) in the morning. Also, you get free coffee or tea on domestic flights. It's odd. . .you get free coffee or tea on a 35 minute flight between BGO and OSL, but you get nothing on a 3 hour 30 minute flight from MAD to OSL. Go figure!

Since October I flew SAS from ARN-OSL, OSL-TOS, TOS-TRD,TRD-ARN and TRD-TOS and there was nowhere any kind of service. Sad .

The only thing was the breakfast sandwich between TOS and TRD plus the free tea on the domestic sectors.

They could at least serve tea and coffee and free water on the international flights as well.

The main reason for this must be competition from LCC's like DY. But even on routes where SK competes with other mainline carriers like AF they still offer nothing!

They have a monopoly on all flights from MAN to ARN, OSL and CPH. Zero service in Y. Dont be fooled by my username, i like SK, but i find it very poor that they give NOTHING on these services. If they even had a good quality BOB it would be ok, but sadly, NO! I usually find the crew very nice (with the odd very bad apple) and they have the potential to be an exceptional airline. They have many, many, long serving employees who are desparate for the Airline to return to the old days where they could shine and be proud of their jobs.
Instead, they are being crushed, de-moralised and just treated very badly by a board of morons who need sacking asap.

The only bettering in service that I have noticed is crew. Over a year ago, I found them very bad, but now they are a lot nicer and friendlier.

I'll see what I think of them when I fly them from MXP-OSL on the 22nd of June, then OSL-EVE on the 24th, and then EVE-OSL-FRA on the 1st of August.

Im flying MAN-ARN 7Jun so i will also see. I just wish they would get rid of the awful, tacky adverts they have on the windows and meal trays. Could u imagine BA doing that???

On the plus side, their Busines Class, long haul service across to the US is excellent, and their economy is also very good. Its a shame they cant find some common ground and make their inter-europe service more in line with their long-haul. Just a drink and some peanuts would make many people happy im sure!

It would be a good start. MAN-ARN is the type of route where they have the market sewn up but on flights of that length and the price they charge, a in flight service should be provided.

SAS Sweden have had complimentary on domestic flights for a very long time so i assume SAS Norway also have had that. Didn't SAS also serve free breakfasts on intra-european flights?

The food items on their BOB Sucks! On my last trip with SAS i bought a breakfast menu that consisted a tiny little sandwich (only on choice, which was very bad) a half full cup of coffee and a tiny bottle of apple juice. The breakfast costed 7€ which i think is very expensive by considering the low quantity and maybe quality of the food. Fortunetly SAS gave me a voucher because i had been complaining about the lack of service for several months. They used to have a breakfast bag with oj, sandwich, youghurt, muesli and coffe/tea for 6€.

The only thing i've gotten for free on an intra-european flight was two tiny little pieces of chocolate.

LH4116, that is a disgrace. Really sorry to hear your national carrier is such an embarassment to your country and its people.

That seems pretty steep, on EI you get a full cooked breakfast consisting of 1 piece of bacon, two pork sausages, sauteed potatoes and egg. Also served with orange juice, soda bread and a choice of tea/coffee. All for 8EUR. Its delicious too. People don't mind maying for this type of quality seemingly, it usually sells out by row 5!
Never mind, the other options are also very tasty. I think a lot of airlines could learn a lot from the EI BOB "SkyCafe".

Brian.

That is my only complaint with EI. I dont mind paying but they sell out. They need to load more. MON often runs out too. Its very poor when they run out by row 5.

I know. MON do a great hot meal. Its £6 but they sell out all the time, people love it! It surprises me that nobody else seems to follow what they do... i imagine it to be a real money-maker. I will happily pay for a hot meal on board rather than a mangy, old, over-priced, sandwich of dubious origin form a rip-off outlet in the departure lounge. Come on SAS... you can do SOOOO much better!!!

SKORD really good point. Monarch must get a lot of angry customers left with cold option because its really bad form to offer a hot meal but dicriminate to passengers sat 6 rows down!!

They should offer a pre-booking service to avoid dissapointment or load on more meals.

Well SAS used to sell cold meal boxes on their longer flights to IST, MAD, etc. They then stopped selling the meals for a couple of months or a year, they now offer a pasta salad menu which consists of today's choice of pasta salad, a piece of bread and butter + a softdrink for the "reasonable" price of 8€.

I really hope that SAS will change back to the good service that once made them world famous. Until then i'll keep sending them complaints in order to get meal vouchers.

Its a fair point. LX hemorrhaged cash at the time they offered the BOB option. Now they are back offering a light snack in Y and raking in more cash than they know what to do with!  Smile
Just proved the point that there is more ways than one to make money.

Yeah I thought it was a good comparison myself also . Whilst it may have been other factors also it certainly added to their product. When I think of Swiss I think ''traditional good service'' with low fares. Just shows the two are compatable.

I think EI should maybe look at a pre order service where you can pay for your breakfast at time of booking. Should you change your flight then you forefit the cost but for those that really want to gurantee the meal then it should be easy enough to do it. When I flew TK I pre ordered by duty free so a meal shouldnt be too hard. If GSM can do it anyone can !!!

I agree that if airlines like EI are going to sell meals, then a pre-bookable facility should be available. Same with MON. Take up often exceeds supply and many passengers are dissapointed plus opportunity to make additional revenue is thus lost.

Swiss is an excellent example of how cutting service doesnt always pay. IB and SK should take note.

Em if swiss have low fares and good service, ie (thats why im choosing them via ZRH to FCO instead of direct with EI) why can't EI have low fares and free food/baggage, if they did I would fly with them all the time, but they don't and theor fares are always higher then eg LH to FRA or LX to ZRH or OK to PRG or MA to BUD, so I dont understand why people choose to fly with a more expensve fare, with less service, beyond me!!!!! no logic!!
