Ive been looking at non-rev to MCO on the 7/8 June from either ORD, JFK, EWR, BOS etc etc (basically anywhere N/NE US as we are coming from Europe) and all flights, with all Airlines, seem to be bursting at the seams! Is this usual for this time of year, or is there some major event on?
With all the troubles going on right now, im very surprised to see all the flights so full. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Ok! I know us stupid Brits flock there in our thousands at this time of year, but as the weather is not at its "best" at this time (thunder, rain, 35degrees and shocking humidity!) i would expect Americans would be more wise to that fact?? But hay... you cant help but love Florida! (and the RAT!  bigthumbsup  As a point of interest though, we noticed that DL, CO, AA, US etc, out of all the major US NE Airports were oversold in Y, and yet i have just booked (fearing standby on the above) confirmed tickets on AirTran for $340 for 2 of us, and the seat plan was wide open. Im a little nieve, but i find that a bit odd.
Anyway. a week at the Radisson in Kissimmee, fab shopping , and Bennigans for Dinner will do me just fone for a week!  Big grin

I dont want to get in any trouble here, but one of the biggest events takes place this week, and thats Gay week at the attractions...Though not officially endorsed by any of the theme parks it is an annual event that draws tens of thousands gay and lesbians....Perhaps this may explain it....Please dont jump all over me....Im simply stating a fact...

Weather in Orlando has been absolutely perfect to visit (save for the insane heat/humidity lately). Sunny skies and hasn't rained in the past 2 months.

Though not officially endorsed

but, they "unofficially" welcome the event and all that $$$$$$$$$

Absolutely! The Mouse and his World bring thousands for all over the planet. Again, summer and holiday time is the worst!

Yes they do. I have friends heading to MCO today and they said that the airport was a zoo.

Has remodeling finished at MCO?

Except a few days ago when it absolutely poured for a better part of the day.

Not yet. Still a ways away according to the MCO website, but it's looking good so far from what I've seen the past few times I've flown out.

This is an open community here there is no reason to feel you will get jumped on for mentioning this event.

Was at MCO a couple of weeks back. Many of the ceilings are still open and it was a bit hot at our gate, but otherwise pretty comfortable. Things could be quite different two weeks on.

"Attendance

Official attendance numbers are not available. But if organizers' projections hold true, the event now exceeds even Orlando's largest convention, the International Builders' Show, which drew 92,000 people earlier this year. Promoters say they expect about 140,000 visitors to participate in Gay Days, One Mighty Weekend or other related events.

Thomas Roth, a gay-market-research consultant with Community Marketing Inc. of San Francisco, said Orlando's gay-and-lesbian festival might actually benefit from the foundering economy, as gay and lesbian tourists look at the event as a less-expensive alternative to Europe or other destinations."

"Gays and lesbians won't stop traveling; it's just part of our lifestyle," Roth said. "But we will reroute."

Wow, with normal traffic and other conventions. . . no wonder flights are booked.

May as well call it Gay Week/Nerds-R-Us/Star Trek/Klingon convention week. With the Gay Week and the Microsoft convention, the local hookers will have a slow week.  flamed   duck

Gay days is going on this weekend. Very wonderful event where the whole city including the theme parks is celebrating pride. Never been but heard it gets packed. Will hopefully be there for the first time this year. Amanda Lepore will be at Revolutions, and other gay celebrities and activists and just about everyone else who is gay or supports gay rights.

$2 per 1 GBP, $1.55 per Euro...that's why!

It's hard to get bored in central Florida with the Rodent's theme parks, 2 coasts within 1 hour's drive, and outlet malls galore. I would expect this place to become the next Mallorca  Wink

Might have been on a certain area only. I saw what looked like rainclouds the other day late afternoon, but didn't even get a sprinkle where I am at. It's been sunny and hot every day now for over 2 months, so much that I've only had to cut the grass twice this year, that's crazy.
