Does anyone know what the world top 10 travel agents are by the following criteria ?

1) Global turnover
2) Global number of retail outlets
3) Global employees
4) Clients

I am guess with each criteria would have a different top 10 list ?

Are the largest travel largest associated with airlines (eg AA, DL, JL, LH), tour companies (JCB, TUI, MyTravel), card issuers (Visa, Mastercard, Diners, AMEX), or web based (Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz) ?

Are the worlds largest travel agents located in the worlds more populated areas, or the richer areas ? I was thinking in countries where they have a lower penetration of the internet with high population would have more retail outlets (like Indonesia), but richer nations like Japan and US may sell more online ?

Been wondering for a while what the top organizations are that sell travel industry products and services.

Thanks in advance !

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

the top agenies i can think of:

Amex
Carlson-Wagonlit
Uniglobe
Rosenbluth
World travel BTI

I'm sure there are others, and of course the specific figures in terms of volume are highly proprietary and thus confidential, known only to top management and not shared with the agents themselves

While the online agencies are more visible, the corporate agencies do much more volume thanks to their corporate contracts

Why are people so against low yields?! If lower yields means more people can travel abroad, i'm all for it

In addition, the company’s corporate travel management network, FCm Travel Solutions, extends to more than 40 other countries through strategic licensing agreements with independent local operators.

Rosenbluth

Who?  confused

In Germany, the largest would probably be either Hapag Lloyd, Lufthansa CityCentre or Reiseland - in Austria, I'd wager the guess that it's the Verkehrsbüro.

JTB is pretty big with some 13500 employees is one of the biggest single branch agencies in thw world.
American Express is the biggest in the world when you incorporate it's franchises. However in terms of revenues i would have no idea.

In terms of revenue in Australia this tag belongs to Flight Centre and associated companies although is a minnow on the world map, although seems to be the fastest expanding travel agency firm in the world.

TUI AG and Arcandor are holder of many travel agencies through a network of many companies and cooperations.

So, at the top, I think, you should count their tourist companies TUI travel plc and Thomas Cook Group plc.

Whilst no retail outlets, Expedia would be in the top five as probably the world's web based largest travel provider. Many think of only Expedia.com, without realising this is only the North American aspect............it is in fact global and working 24/7 with such as Expedia UK (controls most of Europe), Expedia DE, Expedia AU etc.

AAA has never been much of a factor as a travel agency. They do matter in the auto club world, but not as a travel agent.

Airlines are airlines and not travel agencies.
KLM does have an agency and there might be other international airlines with agencies. In the US I know of no airlines that have a travel agency arm or own one.

In the true sense of a travel agency - an airline would be hard pressed to pull off the services and offerings we afford our clients.
