Hi there,
I was just wondering, - If i were to make a trip to heathrow (EGLL) for the purpose of seeing the A380. What are the best times to be there daily, so see it both Arriving & departing?

Hello Hipersonic,
as Shamrock said arrives early morning. Scheduled arrival during summer months 5:55. Today it has landed on 09L but the first flights in the morning landed on 27L and 27R than tower changed landings according to the winds. There is always a bit of lottery in it I was hoping to see it on my way to work but no luck due to swaped runways.
I would think that you can for sure go and try Myrle Avenue close to Hatton Cross Underground station when departing from 09R (departing 11:55). Speaking of today 12:31 airborn. If departing 27L you can go and see it on Southern Perimetr Road by Esso petrol station.
When arriving/departing on 27R I would go in front of Heathrow visitor center where is viewing deck and you can see quite nicely the taxiing to the runway and its departure. Or new quite pleasant spot I would find at T5 departure level. Go to the north side. You will see some spectacular departures and all the planes are pretty close to you.

Spent a couple of hours at Heathrow the other day, parked up on the roadside free parking on the A30 just east of terminal 4, you can park on either side. Then took a short quarter mile walk east towards Hatton to get to the end of runway 27 left. It was brilliant, I was there early afternoon and saw 777s of BA, Air France, PIA, Emirates, United, AA, JAL 747s of BA, Virgin, El Al, Malaysian, bucket loads of A320s less 737s and loads of others. You can also see the BA 777 that was written off a few months ago now tailless. Enjoy it, its the gateway to the world.

A couple of pictures taken around Hatton Cross.
One is taken from the footbridge in front of the tube station, the other is on the main road that runs at the end of the runway.
Hatton Cross is the first station on the tube out of Heathrow.
(As an fyi London Buses from inside LHR to Hatton Cross are free to travel on)
in case there's any doubt how close Hatton Cross Tube / Bus station is:
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

Passed LHR this morning and as I had time to kill stopped off on the A30 near the end of 27L in time to watch the daily SIA A380 departure, LHR is brilliant.
