Excellent!!! Congratulations! Wish I could be that lucky, but since it will be a Friday (day off), I will be at the airport to see the big bird fly.
I think this puts a lot of the rumors to bed in terms of the first EK A380 flight date; first commercial A380 flight to the US; etc.

WOW!!!! They will received the plane on the 28th of July and throw it into service on the 1st of August. Barely 2 days of preparation! I guess all the tests and preparations are being held as we speak in Hamburg!
But what about the crew training? Is simulator training enough?
What about the pilots, have they been training at the Airbus Facilities?

Interesting that Emirates is going to trump both Singapore Airlines and QANTAS with the first A380 regularly scheduled service to North America. Does anyone know what kind of special events that Emirates has brewing for the inaugurals in both Dubai and at JFK?
Congrats to JFK, yet again the airport writes a page in history!

I am surprised that the aircraft is only being given a few days of crew training prior to entry into service. Is there perhaps substitutions coming to regional routes for the first few days in order to get the crews familiar. Perhaps DXB-KWI, DXB-BAH, DXB-DOH? Of additional interest has Emirates completed training the Flight Attendant crews that are dedicated to the A380?

Wow I would like to have been at JFK at the time to see her first flight to the US. Hope I'll be seeing her sometime alter in the year though.

You need to have about 40hrs flight sim training before you are certified to fly A380, it takes about 21 days I think, anyone can correct me.

This seems to be only the one-off special flight (as is obvious by the flight number), but it doesn't mean that JFK will see daily EK 380s right after that. Those will begin in October as previously announced.

Great news !!
Does this means that the new terminal at DXB will be opened before 1 August ?
I believe that the 380 only can dock at the gates at the new terminal, if they want to use the double airbridge.

Dubai: Emirates, the biggest customer for the Airbus A380 superjumbo, will operate its first flight with the plane from Dubai to New York on August 1.
The A380 service will operate alongside the carrier's two existing daily flights to New York before taking over one of them after August 3, Emirates said in an e-mailed statement.
The 489-seat aircraft is due to be delivered on July 28.
Emirates has 58 A380s on order, worth $18.8 billion at list price.
Taken from Gulf news
So it seems the A 380 will replace on of the 777-300ers on the JFK route!!!
Quoting LIA310 (Reply 14): EK has a full size A380 cabin traning simulator at its training college.
I think they actually have 4 of them. But even with that, can they get their crew certified with a simulator? The real thing will definitely have it's challenges. How will the crew handle the first mishaps on a 14 hour flight!
I am thinking that maybe EK will send some of the first crew to Hamburg for training on the plane. This would actually be the best thing to do! This way they can practise on the real plane while the plane does its test flights!!! Has any other airline done that in the past?

What about August 14th (the flight JFK-DXB)?
It does not show anything ''A380-planned''.
I know EK202 is scheduled for the 77W.
Any chance for upgrade to A380?

The A380 will be a 3rd flight Aug 1 and maybe Aug 3. After that, the A380 WILL replace the 77W on EK 201/202 3x a week until Oct 1 when it will replace 77W EK201-EK202 daily. From EK crewing sources, EK has some surprises up their sleeves on Aug 1-3 that I will not mention because they are BIG surprises.

Not sure....from what I heard the 380 will operate on days 3-5-7 which would mean Wednesday-Friday-Sunday and the 14th falls on a Thursday so if it is operating 3-5-7 than you'll be flying on the 77W which is also a beautiful bird but just not as historical.

Are you referring to the Full D-class cockpit simulator or like a mock-up of the passenger cabin? If it's really the passenger cabin, that's got to take up a lot of room at the campus...

The airline that I've really been waiting to see the interior for is EK. Its exciting to know that EK will shortly show us some pictures. any idea about when these pics will be available?
Also, is their first class on the upper deck, or lower deck as it is on SQ? (I would hope upper deck, it gives it a much more exciting feel)

The pilots have flight time not just sim to certify and are probably doing it in Hamburg and Toulouse while the planes are made ready. But several crews have already done the 340 cross over certificate it is not happening just before they go live.

Is that really the EK J class seating? This looks like the exact sametype of seat as LX F Class. I thought EK's would be something like what EY has on its J class?
Btw Roni, are you travelling F? Lucky you to be flying on the inaugural

The way B/C looks on a GDS seating map, its a strange staggered arrangement, two on the outside and four in the middle but being staggered it will give and arrangement of 1x2x1.

F and J are on the upper deck.
Economy is on the lower with rows accumulating up to 88. (from Forty-something)
Also, I have read on another website that the EK201/202 A380 replacement will take effect after August 8th and the A380 will be operated only on days 5-6-7. (Is this possible? - I hope it is not true)
However, I contacted Emirates Support and told me that further additional flights after August 3rd will be announced at a later date as the schedule with the A380 is not 100% guaranteed.
That is definetly not the EK J-CL cabin. As said before, EK J-CL will be stagered. It's also not EK F-CL because their current F-CL is way better than that. Those are mockup 380 pictures because NO airline would allow that much room be wasted in an AC.
EK said they would introduce the A/C to the world as soon as they take delivery of it. Once they take delivery they will release pictures of the interior.

I know EK stated that DXB-JFK would be their first route, but why would they launch it with only 1 plane, and 3 flights a week????
They would be far better served sending it to LHR on a daily rotation until the 2nd aircraft arrives to allow a daily rotation to JFK. LHR affords them less travel time, and greater seating back-up on other EK flights should any issues arise with the plane. While SQ's introduction to service has gone well, if EK's A380 went tech in JFK, they really couldn't pick a much further place for it to be away from base for repairs!

According to the current list of A380-deliveries the second EK A380 (MSN 013) will be delivered in August 2008. This might be an explanation (although I am very curious if they will be able to stick to this deadline for MSN 013).

Shouldn't a plane like the A380 first be used on crew familiarisation flights for a few weeks before they use it on one of their longest routes in their network. SQ also used their A380's first only to SYD and I doubt QF will use their plane right away to LAX they will use it probably for a few weeks with local and flights of simmilar lenght as SYD - SIN?

I did a dummy booking for the 2 flights in Economy Class on 1 August. There are still seats available for those who want to go.
I find that the DBX/JFK/DBX air fare is not cheap. It amounts to about 1300 Euros return and with this fare you get zero frequent flyer miles.
I hope those who will be on board will really get a lot out of their flight for such a high air fare. I can get me from here to Honolulu and back with UA/LH in Economy for less money.
Quoting Ag92 (Reply 18): The flight is fully booked sadly
Edit: There seem to be available seats
There was a better way to fly. It was called Concorde.

There is absolutely no way you can compare UA/LH to EK on their first A380 flight, EK certainly gives more bang for the buck any day.
