Etihad Coming To LTN? - Recruitment Day In Luton

Etihad have been advertising in the local press that they are holding a Recruitment Day for various posts including cabin crew at the Holiday Inn hotel in Luton on the 18th June...

This would seem an extraorinarily strange move, and a totally different market to what LTN is use to serving, but could Etihad be looking to operate flight from LTN to the Middle East?

In some respects it could be feasiable as there is no flights to the Gulf region operating from the North of London, while Qatar and Emirates both serve LGW offering services to people south of London. Like where Emirates have tapped into the Newcastle and Scottish market, Etihad may think there is a market here. They could have also seen how SilverJet were operating LTN-DXB and thought they could have a try now SilverJet have vanished...

An A330-200 should have no problems operating non-stop to AUH from LTN, off the relatively short runway. But anything bigger is probably a no, no.

I doubt their recruitment day at LTN has anything to do with EY plans to serve LTN. It's probably because many EasyJet crews live near LTN and EY think they're likely to get a good turnout of potential employees by holding it there.

Don't read into this too much mate. They hold these types of events at all kinds of venues which is not necessarily a precursor to a new post. I don't think the onward connectivity from LTN are sufficiently attractive. I believe they even have a recruiting drive going on in Moldova upcoming!

EY are definitely not interested in LTN. They are looking for extra staff for expansion into the UK, but LTN is not on the cards. But as an area with a lot of airline staff located, in makes sense for them to try recruiting in the area.

You sometimes see airline recruitment events at hotels in Wilmslow and Altrincham for the same reason. EY would possibly be better off at BHX although LTN wouldn't be too beyond the realms of belief.

I can never quite work out why long haul from STN and LTN isn't an attractive proposition for airlines (and doesn't seem to work for AA) when half the population of the south east lives within spitting distance of the two. But that's the subject of a different debate I suppose.

EY will look for more LHR access before they think about any other London point. BHX is a contender indeed, but with so many potential destinations EY wants to fly to and not enough aircraft, it may have to wait some time.

But what EY needs more than anything else right now is crews and is working hard to persuade them to relocate to AUH. As a regular EY flyer, the one weak point of what is an excellent product is the cabin crew service. On their flights there always seems to be one or two (often UK or Australian) cabin crew who are clearly very experienced and quite a few who seem completely new and unsure of what they need to do. To be expected of course when you are an airline exapnding at a rapid rate.

EY have a huge aircraft order imminent (most likely to be announced at Farnborough) and they badly need to find crew, preferably experienced ones, to help meet this huge expansion.
