From what I can gather from other forums they stopped operations at 1500 cet today.

ALL aircraft grounded. Mostly at OST.

The reason for closure was lack of funding and inreconcilable differences between the shareholders.

Very well, thanks.
We will update our Defunct Airlines list... which now counts 33 airlines for 2008, more than the entire year 2007 or 2006 and we're not even half way through the year...

MK have indeed gone into administration. 747-200s and high fuel prices don't go well together.

There are talks going on between the administrator and a potential buyer who may put 747-400Fs into the business, but by no means certain.

The move into administration should be made official public knowledge sometime today.

A report on the dutch site luchtvaartnieuws.nl does indeed state that MK has ceased operating as of today. Their fleet of 8 B742F's and 1 DC-8 are idle at the moment.
High fuel prices and a disagreement between shareholders over what course to follow are cited as the reasons.
I hope all the staff are cared for and such.

Another all cargo carrier bites the dust and indeed another which served Africa a lot. After DAS Cargo MK was very bij in Africa.
I wonder which airline is to follow next.

Zanair flight, please hold on finals as we have to clear rhino's off the runway. Next flight: AMS-FRA-SVG-FRA-AMS

Without kidding. I loved them as I saw one of the last DC 8-55 in Europe operated by them.

I spoke to an MK employee today, everyone has been sent home until further notice, due to going into administration.

I wonder where they will find B744F's that quickly for a restart. For sure there are enough airframes arounf but how long will it take to convert them and will the cash creditord wait that long?
Would be a very good step if they can make it.

I believe it was stated in the Transaero topic that the B747 conversions were booked solid untill late 2012...

Here is a little news story

Quote:
Another carrier bites the dust

MK Airlines, a UK-based freight carrier, has suspended operations and appointed administrators after failing to secure investment to help refinance the company and secure more fuel-efficient planes.

The company, which has a fleet of eight aging Boeing 747-200s, said it has appointed administrators from BKL Business Recovery owing to its financial position.

It said talks with potential investors took longer than expected and weren't helped by a difficult economic environment and the high cost of fuel.

The cargo carrier joins a growing list of passenger airlines that have ceased flying this year due to the rising cost of fuel.

Wow, that''s really neat to be able to fly again so shortly.
I am amazed by this. Does anybody have any information on what has happened so that they can restart so quickly?
