The new model being built for the vacant spot where the model concorde once stood at LHR is almost complete in California, the model measures 80ft long and 88ft wide, the model is of an Emirates A380

The model is to fly Los Angeles-Ontario-London, the model is 1/3 of the size of a real A380 and is so big it needs to be transported inside an AN-226

...which itself hasn't even been built yet!!!

Hm, I'm sure you meant an An-225.

Can't wait to see that landing at LHR on 3rd or 4th July...

Los Angeles-Ontario-London,

When they say Ontario they mean ONT, that is the closet airport to where the model is being built. I don't see an AN225 flying LAX-ONT-LHR

... here's the original article - San Bernadino Sun.

They do say it will travel from the workshop via LA/Ontario International to Heathrow, which means I guess it will almost certainly arrive on 4th. No mention of a stop in Canada...  confused

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the EK model will be delivered in an AN-124 instead of an AN-225.

The slots are already cleared for an AN-124 to arrive at LHR on 4th July from ONT and depart on the 5th July to HHN!

Still...it will be good to see a large Russian freighter at LHR even if its not the "big one"!

80 feet long x 88 feet wingspan is nowhere near the size of a 737 as the article states. A 738 is around 120 feet long with a span of 112 feet, or 118 feet with winglets

Using an AN124 seems an expensive way of transporting a model aeroplane from LA to LHR. One might suggest that it would have been less expensive to have built it in the UK or Europe and trucked it to LHR, or to have started a bit earlier and used surface trransport.

The AN-124 was there on Tuesday, but left sometime Tuesday night. Does anyone know if it will be back to pick up the A380 model on July 3, or was it already on board?
