What do you guys think is the most successful start up airline??
I would have to say FedEx. They are by far the most powerful cargo airline in the world, and it all start with a Falcon 20!

SWA. SWA started with two guys who were (and still are) nuts! They made their way by giving business men free bottles (fifths) of booze as inflight drinks, don't believe me read Nuts .

Jetblue Profit within 6 months
Southwest Airlines more than 30 years and still kicking AA$
If PAN AM 3 keeps going the way they're going then they'll survive as long as they stick to their markets and don't venture away from the biz plane and slowly expand westward, North to Canada and the Carribean. These markets seem to do well for them. If they ever do plan to go international then maybe Portsmouth-Stansted in the UK can do with ex US 767-200ER. Stansted is underseved by US carriers (only CO serves it among other Euro carriers. AA pulled out in 1992 shortly after AA got TWA's LHR slots.)and there is rail link and little delays and getting around is convinient

I would say Southwest- They came in with only a few 737s flying DAL-HOU
HOU-AUS
DAL-AUS, and 30 years later they are a domestic powerhouse.

Well, since every airline was a start-up at one time in their airline "childhood" I guess you can say almost any airline who made it past 5, 10, 25, or 75 years is a successful start-up
Seriously though, JetBlue sounds like a good vote, haven't gotten to experience it first hand yet but everyone I've heard who has, has done nothing but rave about how great it is.

JetBlue has only made money on financial reports. No real profit or equity...yet. It should be more solid in a couple years. Provided the majors leave them alone (and they won't). I understand they are having cash flow problems which is not real promising.

I would say SWA has done the best so far. I consider them one of the US majors. I think jetblue is too young to be considered the most successful. While they look like they will do well, something could happen and they go bust in 3 or 4 yrs.
