Norway's only dedicated maritime aerial surveillance aircraft, a MerlinIIIB, owned by Helitrans of Vaernes, Norway, went missing off western coast of Norway today at 08:32 UTC. There were 3 pilots on-board on a training flight out of BGO (Flesland, Bergen).
This aircraft has been on duty for the Norwegian pollution control authorities since 1982, and the 3 superb aviators now missing have been involved in all sorts of maritime emergencies for decades - oil spills, people missing at sea, forest fires etc. What a terrible loss.
