EVA A340 500?

I was looking at a drawing of an EVA A340 500. Did EVA plan on buying A340 500s, and if so, why did they cancel the order?

They decided in favor of the 777-200LR. In fact they were the launch customer IIRC. But they converted their 77L's for 77W's when it turned out that the latter got more and more range during development, enough to reach the required US destinations from Taiwan.
