According to the ACI page for Jan to April 99, ATL is the busiest airport in both passengers and operations. Join me in giving the ATL ATC guys and gals commendation for running the world's busiest airport with only 4 runways.

Congrats ATL. Now if you could only build more runways,so as not to be the world's biggest parking lot.

ORD fans, for some reason your numbers have been going down,I wonder if this is the slot control system showing its effect.

DFW numbers also went down.

What are your opinions on ATL becomming the BIG #1.

Thats true what you said, but ORD is the busiest airports in approuches and departches.

ALT also has the largest terminal, don't know if that still holds true today.

My thoughts on ALT, if you like Delta (I mean OBSESSED), you'll like to hang around that airport, if you hate Delta very much, then you'll feel like its hell in there. Just my thoughts.

atl is the busiest in operations not just passengers for the previous reply i think that ord and atl will switch back and forth dfw will lag behind as far as passengers .it really is amazing that atl can pull that off with one hub carrier, ord has united and american and still comes up short to atl, that says a lot in itself

DFW man,did you know you can listen to Airtraffic control at DFW on the internet? I listening to them right now. And I agree with your post

767-400er,if you go to the ACI site,a site that tracks the worlds airport traffic activity, you see in there chart that ATL is the busiest in passenger AND OPERATIONS,its all the more incredible when you consider it has only 4 runways.

I think Lap Chap Kok has the largest single-construction passenger terminal in the world.

the thing that i love about atl is the simplicity of the design of the airport,4 very strategically placed east west runways and the terminal design, the airport is very easy to navigate and user freindly,i dont quite think the devoloper of the terminals, and concourses knew that they would set the trend for what a airport should be.i remember back in 1987 when atl first took the title from ord and ord claimed it was due to a lot of bad wheather.i wonder what the excuse is now,and which airport will reach the 1 million operations first atl, ord,or dfw

Its true, Atl is probably the most user friendly airport I have been in, DFW is hard to get around and it takes forever to get from one terminal to the next one on the
TrAAin thing, but anyways, its suprising that atl surpasses ord and dfw since ord has united and american and dfw has american and delta, and atl has just delta and the few low fare carriers.

The reason ATL surpassed ORD is that ORD is a slot controlled airport,if you do not have a slot you cannot land or takeoff. The system was designed to keep airtraffic in check, but now I think it has outlived its usefullness. And I am sure all your ORD buffs out there agree.

also ord has a lot of neighbors who complain about the noise and the amount of takeoffs and landings i know i know why in the HELL do they live near an airport if they cant stand the noise, but anyway i wonder if they have any say so on the slots you know how they form these groups designed to keep airport activity down, good thing we in dallas do not have that problem we realize the more activity the more dollars are pumped into community

Part of problem with ORD this year was the upgrades being done at the ATC facilites in Aurora IL..It caused UA and AA to cancel almost 5% of flts a day in May..When weather went bad it was even more..To date UA and AA have had to cancel almost double the same number of flts at ORD compared to last year..
